Powerlifting

April 21, 2009

I started out as a bodybuilder and competed for a few years with moderate success.  I came to the harsh realization that I was too light for my height.  I talked to a few people at my local gym and got in touch with a great powerlifter from my area and started training with him.  I’ve since fell in love with the sport of powerlifting.  I started out just wanting to use powerlifting as a way to gain some solid, thick muscle, but I’ve gotten the "itch" and don’t see an end in sight.  I’ve gained nearly 25 pounds since I started training with this guy and listening to his supplement, diet tips.  I’m very grateful for everything he has done to help me and it’s definitely opened my eyes up to way difficult powerlifting actually is.  I’m competing at 165 and in my upcoming meet on May 2, I am shooting to Squat 500, Bench 350 and Deadlift 450.  That’s hopefully a goal that I will hit and something on which I can build.  I plan on doing a few more powerlifting meets at least for the next year so that I can put on the size that I’m truly looking for…
