Oh me love them 21’s

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Yes I only wish I was talking about my arms or my…well that wouldn’t be plural so never mind. Today was arm day and we blasted it I am still disappointed and I am not sure why. We did a great workout started with dips and really blasted the triceps. Then came the 21’s which hurt but oh so good.

So what are 21’s for people not in the know well it is a reduction in weight from you max. So for us we did 21’s on straight bar barbell curls. You do 7 complete reps, 7 top half reps, and finish off with 7 bottom reps. If your arms are not burning by the end then you simply didn’t lift any weight. My arms feel like jello which is a good thing.

My after workout meal consisted of a protein shake and a bowl of oatmeal. So question did I eat enough carbs for the post workout? 20g

Well I am off to the gym to do an hour of cardio work before my family gets home.

Peace out people.

2..4..6..8 how many sets of legs do you hate!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

So today as you can guess from the ever so descriptive title is leg day. I love leg day…yeah well I pretend to love it while I am doing it and hate it for the rest of the week. So here is a quick post to go over the light leg workout we did as we plan on moving leg day to Sunday.

Legs
Back Squats (4 Sets)
Sissy Squats (1 Set)
Front Squats (4 Sets)
Leg Extension (4 Sets x 20 reps each)
Leg Curls (4 Sets x 20 reps each)

Abs
Super ball Crunches (5 sets)

We wimped out on the calf raises as we will hit them on Sunday and we were running out of time. I kept most loads fairly low but I am still going to hurt a bit tomorrow happy to know I am alive and the pain will be there.

Hope your day wasn’t leg day.

Post, Dramatic, Disappointment.

Monday, February 25th, 2008

PDD - (Post, Dramatic, Disappointment)

This is how I felt after my chest workout today I didn’t note it in my original blog because I thought that I just was still pumped but I wasn’t.  I just didn’t get enough burn going which is disappointing I know what I needed to do which is a good thing and I won’t make the mistake again this week.  What I should have done was push it over 225lbs on the flat press say 275lbs and do partials that way my chest would have been burning and I would have gotten to complete failure.

That is what I need to do EVERY TIME..  As Arnold said in ‘Stay Hungry’ "you have to burn to grow."  I didn’t burn so I doubt I will get any results in the growing department.

This is what we do we learn and we move forward.  I will not make the mistake again and I am sure when I train legs on Wednesday I will be so sore the next 5 days after that I will barley be able to walk.

Have a good one and hey two posts in one day not overly crazy.

No Bouncing Chest

Monday, February 25th, 2008

After reading a few blogs today I decided I needed to add some humor to todays entry. So no bouncing chest, that’s what’ I told John today when we were doing bench presses no bouncing the bar off your chest. Today was chest day and we realize today that we will need to switch up back and shoulder as it is just to close to chest day. So we are moving leg day to Sunday and going to move Back and Shoulder to Monday. So here is a view of our current schedule just drop me a email if you want to come blast it out with us.

Sunday Leg / Abs
Monday Back / Shoulder
Wednesday Chest
Friday Arms

Cardio every day 1-1.5 hrs. :-)

Here was our chest workout.

Flat Press (5 Sets)
Overhead Pulls (4 Sets)
Flat Flys (4 Sets)
Inc Press (2 Sets)
Dec Press (2 Sets)

I ate about 100g of carbs today I need another 40 so my dinner will be a bit heavier then I planned. My Protein is through the roof I over did it I am at 385 right now with dinner still to come. I have a load of work ahead of me as I just don’t want anything to slip away so I am really working hard to get everything done. I am hoping for the following improvements over the next two weeks. Additional weight loss especially in the abdominal region hopefully 10 lbs of fat will exit the body. I am also hoping for about a 10 lb muscle gain this is my goal currently do you think I can do it? Let me know.

Moving Forward

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

My friend John came by today for the back and shoulder workout.  It was great I miss having him around he is pushing me hard which is what I wanted.  I consumed about 265g of protein tonight and only about 150g of carbs.  Today is my high day tomorrow will be medium which means carbs are reduced and protein is increased.  I actually have three chicken breasts in the fridge waiting for tomorrow.  My goal is going to be 390g of protein which will mean big breakfast and much more.

Todays workout.
T-Bar Rows
V-Grip Lat Pull downs
Stiff arm lat pull downs
bent over DB Rows

Upright Rows
Seated Arnold Presses
Rear Delt Flys
Shrugs

Finished off with 70 minutes of cardio my goal is 60-90 minute per day.

Hope you have a good workout.

The New Deal

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Well today is day one of the new program and I am fired up and ready to rock.  We are going to do some before photos of myself and John (if he lets me).  My goal today is 280g of protein and less then 100 carbs.  We are doing a back and shoulders day we should be doing some upright rows, shrugs, t-bar rows, lat pull down, straight arm pull down, and more.

I will try and give and update with some photos a bit later today but I have 1.5 hours of cardio to do and will be going to the in-laws tonight.

Friday Power

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I made it instead of slacking off I did one hell of an arm workout and did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine. I am so happy I got the workout in on day everyone is looking forward to the weekend. I will be doing some cardio again tomorrow. I will also begin working towards a cycle of carbohydrates and protein. I will have to manage it with over all calories as I want to lose weight.

So I have a lot of work ahead of me and nothing but determination behind it. I really need to keep it all under control especially on the weekends where I tend to have cheat days. I can’t have them any more I am in progress mode not backwards mode.

No Sacrifice, No Victory!

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Well I have talked with a friend and the plans have been put in motion.  I am going to do a live transformation project.  I am currently bouncing around 255-260 lbs and have been doing plenty of cardio and loads of weight training.  So what is my goal?

Here is the goals sub 10% body fat going lower for a 2009 body building contest.  I will be entering the novice class most likely in a super heavy weight division.

Second goal is to present the material and everything I learn so that others may gain from my experience.

Do to the scheduling and work here is the current lifting schedule because of my high BF right now I will continue to do cardio EVERY DAY!

Sunday - Back and Shoulders
Monday - Chest
Wednesday - Legs and Abs
Friday - Arms

Now things like forearms might be moved to Monday but we will see how it plays out.  My cardio work will consist of 30-60 minutes of elliptical training every day as well as some interval training sprinting up R-13.  Everything will be documented food, supplements, and even grocery shopping.

I will also try to include a bit of video the Transformation Project Video.

Wish me the best of luck.

FitExpo 2008 Photos

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

Well here is what everyone has been waiting for the photos from FitExpo 2008.  Enjoy the images I will try to just keep this short with just the images and a brief description about each below the image.  First up for the boys the booth babes and yes my wife lets me call them babes.

We saw this woman shortly after walking through the door and I actually said to Tracy I have to get some shots for Steve and the fans. :-)

These two were in the BSN booth and were very nice.  They were having a lot of fun and I think they liked the attention they were getting.

Now on to the celebrities lets start off with the American Gladiators.

Left to right: Mayhem, Militia, Justice, Stealth, Siren, and WolfTracy and Justice

Tracy and Siren (Valarie is so nice!)  Also my 5 year old loves her.

So next we were walking down to the Bodybuilding.com booth when who did we see but Jason Dohring.  I actually blurted out loud “Veronica Mars” he looked back at us and were positive it was Jason.  So after some patient waiting as we didn’t want to interrupt him while he was chomping on some beef jerky (which we ended up catching him with a mouth full anyways!)  We approached him and asked to get his photo with Tracy.  He was very nice I can’t say that enough for someone who has such great success and more on the horizon he was very down to earth.  After the photo we took a few minutes to chat about the writer strike and the return of Moon Light.

Finally  my wife’s favorite fitness model Jamie Eason.  Look at this image closely they are almost the same height and hell they resemble each other enough to be sisters.  Tracy has a ton of respect for her and I think that is amazing. You should be able to click on any of the links and get slightly larger versions of the images.

I hope everyone enjoys the image.

#60 - The Drive

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

So just got home from the in-laws and the fit expo.  The show was really great Tracy got her photo with several American Gladiators as well as Jason Dohring.  Jason was on Veronica Mars as well as another show we watch Moon Light.  Talk about your non-typical actor Jason was nice talkative and really down to earth.  He comes across as someone you could really see as a friend which is very surprising.   He was surprised that we knew who he was as nobody else was bugging him for autographs.  Tracy was a bit sheepish on approaching him but she was very happy she got up the nerve to talk to him with me.  I have plenty of photos of the show and we will post some tomorrow after I take a couple of fresh photos of the kids.

One thing that did happen that got me fired up a bit was a comment a pro-bodybuilder made to me.  I told them that I was trying to cut a bit and still maintain and even add a bit more muscle.  The comment may have not come out right or it is just that I have heard so many negative things in my life but I took what he said as an insult.  It came across to me that he was saying I would never look as good as the bodybuilders at the show.  First I wouldn’t want to look like some freak with mutated muscles but the classics sure.  So now I am fired up that means more R-13 running tomorrow along with 40 minutes of cardio on the elliptical.

I am now considering the option of training for a amateur body building event in 2009.  I am thinking Muscle Beach Venice typically a July/Aug event that has a great novice class.

What does everyone else think?
