Steady as she goes…

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Remember it’s not how fast you lose the weight it is how long you go.  People seem to always get cranky with watching the scale I did even though I was checking the scale just once a week.  I have decided not to bother for a couple of weeks maybe only track it once a month.  (Feedback Welcome)

So I am continuing my circuit training style with a bit more cardio I have been running the local hills lately.  I walk to the base of of the hill trying to stretch out on the way there and warm up.  Then at the base of the hill I run to the top huffing and puffing all the way up.  Once at the top I turn around and either walk back down or try a mild jog down.  I do this with two other hills and then do it all again going back towards my house.  I can honestly say I feel really good when I walk back in the door of my house.  It feels like I conquered a major milestone and that always feels good.

Circuit training still a go I even workout during the Thanksgiving Holiday and my wife has been training with me.

So this is our last week of Circuit training as we have been doing this for nearly 8 weeks (wife 3). So I am changing up the routine to be a bit different again.  Here is what I am planning on starting on Monday.

HIT - 15-20 Minutes Body Part per day.
Monday - Back
Tuesday - Chest Shoulders
Wednesday - Legs
Thursday - Off
Friday - Arms or Off
Saturday - Off or Arms
Sunday - Off

Then each day with exception of Saturday and Sunday will include Cardio 30-60 minutes most likely interval training.

Let me know what you think.

Cardio Blowout

Monday, November 19th, 2007

So my wife and I went out on Friday night for a friends goodbye dinner he is moving on to a new place of employment and we decided to help send him off. By going to the dinner we missed our workout the plan was to workout on Saturday. Instead of working out in the traditional sense we ended up doing yard work which was pretty grueling but rewarding. So we were exhausted and tired so we didn’t get our workout in on Saturday but it would have been a makeup for Friday. Not wanting to let it go we decided to workout at the park with kids on Sunday. First thing in the morning we get out of bed eat a nice healthy breakfast then played with the kids a bit then got everyone dressed and headed for the park.

I brought along some cones and placed them about 10 yards apart total of 4 cones. We then did series of runs. Here is the series we did:

1 - sprint 10 yards drop and do 10 pushups
2  - sprint next 10 yards drop and do 10 crunhes
3 - sprint last 10 yard and do 5 burpees (or football drops we didn’t jump into the air we ran in place for 5 seconds).

Then repeat going back to 0.

We did about 4 sets of these and oh my a recovering fit guy like me was about to puke. Highly recommend this to any family trying to squeeze a workout in with the kids. Our kids laughed and tried to do the work with us.

8 lbs in seven days

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Talk about having a biggest looser moment or what 8 lbs in seven days is huge. I did some great circuit training this week and did do a bit of extra work. My wife began working out with me and she made it 4 of the 5 days this week. She is extremely sore but enjoyed every minute of it. On Thursday my son joined us although he gave up quickly and went back to watching Disney’s Cars on TV.

I want to talk for a quick minute about social situations I was at a fair well engagement on Friday night. I constantly had to remind myself to watch what I was putting in my mouth. These situations are hard especially if you are the guy or girl that has been known to throw down a few. Just remember that other people have had this problem and that tomorrow it will be someone else.

Well my goal is only two lbs this week as it is turkey week and it will be very hard to fit all of my workouts in with traveling to relatives. I am actually hoping for a 4 lbs loss but I didn’t want to shoot for the moon and only get half way.

Have good one.

Traveling Man

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Well I have returned home and did only one workout on the road. I am disappointed in myself for not making it more of a priority these are the problems we all face. We are all constantly pulled in every direction trying to make everyone happy. We have to put our foot down. Now hopefully I can listen to my own advice and next time make that happen. The hotel I stayed at did not have a workout room and the room it self well it was a bit scary. I won’t say what hotel but San Jose has some scary places you can stay. The problem was that our travel manager booked our hotel rooms late and not only was the conference we were going to happening but so were 5 others filling up the town full of people.

All that said I did workout a bit with the kids on Saturday trying to make up for some of my lost workout days. I did still lose 2 lbs and I am so thankful that I lost weight at all I couldn’t help but smile we have to savor all the little victories. Weight loss is not a small task or a fast sprint it is a marathon and something you must do for the rest of your life.

We all have to fight for every pound we lose and I hope I can inspire someone to lose a bit of weight.

Week 3 going on the road!

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Well I just finished up my workout today. I got a really late start but I did a 40 minute walk around the area and then came back and did a huge triple-set Gym Jones style Olympic lifts, straight to assisted pullups, and finished off with some seated rows. I did 10 reps each set and did three sets total. Then finished up with some flat bench presses and ball crunches. Exhausting but I feel better just knowing I finished it.

I am heading on the road tomorrow heading for a convention in San Jose. So I have to start thinking about what I am going to eat while I am there and what I am going to do for my workouts. I leave very early in the morning tomorrow so early there is not enough time to get in another workout. I will have to do my workout at the hotel when I get in after my first day at the convention. Here is what I am thinking I am not sure the hotel has a gym so I am taking my running shoes and some basic workout attire. I am going to run the stairs even it the hotel is only a couple of stories tall maybe come up some sort of lap count and at the end of each lap drop and do 10 - 20 pushups and then 10 - 20 crunches.

I will have to remember to watch what I eat and drink as I will likely be out with clients and they will want to indulge a bit.

Wish me luck.  10 lbs down 55 lbs to go.

Moving Along

Monday, November 12th, 2007

So I would said I would keep this updated so here I am. As I stated previously I kind of wanted to go with a GymJones.com style of workout. Not having all the equipment they have has made me do some improvising, but I believe we have a good list. Of course none of my routines have been the same but we will see how long that last as I might run out of movements. Here is a sample of the last few days workouts I will also update my stats as I have lost 4 lbs.

Thursday Oct 25th 2007
Warm-up 10 minutes Elliptical distance traveled .7

One Arm KettleBell Swings - used dumbbell 20 lbs.
25 reps x 20 lbs

Pushups - 30 reps with rest

Jumpups - air no box at this time tried to keep it consistent height.
2 sets of 10 reps.

Dead Lifts
2 sets of 10 at 115 lbs

Pullups Assisted
20 reps

Crunches
2 sets of 10

Now everything has changed but I did another workout on Friday again on Monday and Tuesday. I am doing another workout today that will be completely different then anything I have done possibly some of the same exercises but not in the same order. The only thing that is consistent throughout my workouts is the warm-up. Which I have now added a interval training piece for the last half of the 5 minutes getting my distance to now .8. Pathetic I know but it is a start. I also added a 35 lbs Kettlebell to my collection which hopefully I will have some video to put up soon.

Back to my Fitness Quest

Monday, November 12th, 2007

I started another blog on Blogger and like to update there first but I think I will keep the content in two places.

At one point in my life I can honestly say I was fit but only at one point. I do not want that to be the case I have started a quest a journey to conquer my fitness goals and become the best version of me possible.

Aug 2nd my father passed away.

I was 250 lbs before my Dad died and I was in the gym 4-5 times a week. After he passed away I lost all interest in anything except my family. I was in a bit of a depression then one day he told me to change jobs I heard him in my ear say get out of this place. So I did I changed jobs and have started my life over again. So here I am at 290 lbs going back onto a low GI spiking diet and pushing myself to make changes.

I will have video and progress photos along with current workout systems etc..

Enjoy
James
