2k9 Week 3, Thursday

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Ok, I just got in from the gym and am totally wiped. I’m ready to eat and go to bed.

It was a good workout despite my back being a bit achey all day. My hips weren’t really bothering me much at all today, so I’m happy about that.

Diet’s been good. I’ve had a couple of small snacky-type foods (a muffin yesterday and the day before) but otherwise I’ve been sticking to it very well. I’m starting to be able to time my watch by when I go to the bathroom. :)

That’s pretty much it. Tomorrow is leg night, which I’m actually looking forward to. Let’s hope my stations are available when I get to the gym.

2k9 Week 3, Wednesday

I didn’t get to the gym last night because I was at a concert. (Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings.) I’m pretty tired today, but definitely plan on getting in my back workout tonight.

2k9 Week 3, Sunday

Ok, my net was on the fritz last night when I got home so I wasn’t able to post last night, but I had a great workout anyways, despite a couple of small annoyances.

I’ve been going on Wednesday - Sunday nights so that I avoid the big crowds earlier in the week - well these past couple nights now it’s still been pretty busy. Not as busy as the other nights, but still pretty busy. Yesterday was extremely aggravating because I wasn’t able to get on either of the stations I normally use for my leg workouts. Both of my preferred squat racks were taken up, so I used another station I don’t like as much. I finish my squats and am about to move to leg press when someone gets on the machine. At that point I was pretty pissed, so I waited a minute or two to see if they would do just a couple of quick sets; to no avail. So I had to use this seated leg-press dealie whose stability was a bit questionable.

Anyhow - I got it all done, and in a good time too. Hopped on and did my cardio, then headed home.

So I was doing good last week, as evidenced by the numbers. I’m not worried about the waist reading going up because hips and the scale both went down - maybe it was food taking up space in my tummy when I measured. I’m gonna keep doing what I’ve been doing.

I’m not looking forward to tonight. Typically, Mondays are the busiest nights at my gym, but I’ve gotta get this last workout done so I’ll just play it by ear.

2k9 Week 2, Saturday

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Ok, I took the night off yesterday due to general tiredness, and it made a difference today for sure, but I’m a day behind. No biggie - I’ll just go on Monday first thing in the morning and finish off the week.

Tonight I got to the gym a bit late, so I felt pretty rushed through a lot of my workout. I ended up skipping my triceps exercises completely because I wanted to make sure I got in a full 30 minutes of cardio.

Diet’s been so/so today. I had to work and didn’t really plan so my meals weren’t the best they could have been, but I didn’t get anything too heinous. (Mac and cheese, mostly.) However, I did do well with my meal spacing today, so that’s good.

I’m curious what the tape will say in the morning for measuring day.

2k9 Week 2, Thursday

Not much to report tonight except that I had another good workout. I really hit a stride on cardio tonight and feel like my endurance has increased; it wasn’t as difficult to finish the 30 minutes tonight as it was even last night.

I have to work on Saturday but I don’t think it will interfere with my workout at all since I go at night. However, the gym closes earlier on weekends (9pm instead of 11pm on weeknights), so I’m gonna have to play it by ear

That’s pretty much it. I’m gonna eat and hit the sack.

2k9 Week 2, Wednesday

I’m home from a pretty awesome leg workout tonight. I had to really push myself to finish my cardio tonight, and I did.

It’s the first 3-set week, and boy my legs feel good. I think that slow, deliberate movements are gonna be the key to keeping my legs from getting worse. My right hip hasn’t actually been bothering me much at all this past week or so, but my left hip… My left hip has been really giving me some grief, especially at night - I can’t even sleep on my sides anymore, only on my back.

But all things considered, I’m excited that I can still do the leg portion of my workout - I can feel that it makes a huge difference in my overall stamina.

Diet’s been very good all week; funny how easy something is when you make it a priority. I’ve been pretty busy lately, so it’s been tough sometimes to get those meals prepared, but anytime I even think of not getting my meal ready, I just jump up immediately and take care of it.

That’s pretty much it and it’s bedtime for me. I’m tired.

2k9 Week 2, Sunday

Just a quick update - I’m trying to get to bed at a decent hour tonight.

Had another good workout tonight; deadlifts were actually not that bad, so maybe my stamina for that exercise is finally improving again. My legs were actually fine all day, so that’s very encouraging.

Diet was good though I did eat late for one of my meals. Not a huge deal, but I definitely am keeping an eye on that.

Tomorrow and Tuesday are my off-nights so I’ll probably update on Wednesday.

2k9 Week 1, Saturday

I love front upper body nights because the workout always feel so brisk compared to back and leg nights. I’m home now after another good workout and am curious to see what the measuring tape will say tomorrow morning, but I’ll be surprised if I’ve actually lost anything this week due to just getting started up again.

I went to the store today and bought a ton of meat, so I’m pretty well covered in the protein dept. for at least a couple of weeks. Tomorrow I want to head out and pick up a few more things to round out my pantry and I’m all set. I did have a few slices of pizza today, but that’s been the worst thing I’ve done all week, and I don’t feel bad about it - they were quite tasty. :)

Tomorrow is back night. I may go early so I can stay the night at a friend’s house, but we’ll see.

2k9 Week 1, Friday

Ok - really effing good leg night tonight, and I discovered what may be one of the causes of this hip stuff that’s been giving me so much grief lately.

I’ve had issues with my hamstrings cramping up whenever I did face-down leg curls in the past, so I started doing them on a seated machine. Tonight when I went to the machine and started my sets, I noticed a lot of stress put on both of my hips and my right hip ached right away. I stopped and was going to skip leg curls, but then I thought I’d try the face-down machine again; lo and behold I was able to do all my sets with no hip discomfort at all. I’m thinking of all the weight I’ve put on that seated leg curl and how it must have been very hard on my hips all that time.

Otherwise the legs went great. I was meticulous with my form and made sure I was ready to stop any exercise if my hips started acting up at all, which never happened except when I did that seated leg curl.

Tomorrow is front upper body, I just hope my legs don’t get major sore tomorrow.

2k9 Week 1, Thursday

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Ok, no possums in the road, but I’m feeling really good again after another good workout.

Deadlifts still pack the wallop for me, but tonight’s 2 sets weren’t as bad as past workouts have been, and for once I felt like doing my triceps exercises. After that, I hopped on the elliptical for a 30 minute cardio session which flew by because a really good program was on CNBC. (Last night they had a piece on about that Lou Perlman guy - I had no clue he had swindled that much money!)

Anyhow - I’m done with my last meal of the day and it’s time for bed. Speaking of meals - I’ve been really good. All the junk food is out of the house and I’m just not gonna bring anymore back in. I’ve also really been watching my intake throughout the day and getting myself back on a 5 meals-a-day every-three-hours schedule.

Tomorrow - legs. They’re feeling pretty good, so maybe I’ll do extremely light weights.
