Week 4, Day 1!

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

My measurements went pretty well, though my choices this week on food definitely affected the waist and hip measurement. I really gotta NAIL my diet this week. That means tomorrow and Tuesday will be spent getting my food in order for this week. Did a good Pilates workout tonight, which really got me sweating; I’m extremely inflexible and out of shape!
Goals this week are:

1. Nail my diet 100%. No cheat meals, no buying breakfast or lunch at work.

2. Be more consistent with my Pilates and Callanetics. I started out with the intention of doing these at least a couple times each per week, but it’s been 1 time per week, if that. I really want to get these going on my non-weight days.

3. Start the contest with a bang.

As mentioned before, this is the first time I’ve gone more than 2 or 3 weeks with any exercise routine. Now is the time for me to really start getting more consistent with all this. I’m seeing results and want to continue that trend; discipline is the key.

Oh yeah. I read up a bit on that HIIT cardio routine. I think I’m gonna give it a try this week and see what it does for me.

Week 3, Day 7

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

It was odd being at the gym so early in the day for a weight workout. I was a bit worried about it being over-crowded, but it turned out to be a non-issue. I was able to bust out all my sets pretty quick.

My hip and knee didn’t bother me much today at all during the workout. My hip didn’t act up once during cardio. I really pushed it on the cardio today.

I’m interested to see how measuring will go tomorrow. I may do some Pilates tonight, but definitely at least Pilates or Callanetics tomorrow.

Wow… I’ve never made past week 2 of this workout before, now I’m on week 4. I’m proud of myself for sticking this out. Next week the contest starts. I’m not as apprehensive about the photo as I was last week, but I’m glad I’ve already got good momentum going for this thing.

Week 3, Day 6

Friday, December 28th, 2007

Today’s workout went pretty well. That knee issue seemed to have resolved itself between yesterday and today because it hasn’t bothered me at all, but on the way home from work I ran up the stairs at the train station 2 at a time and that same kind of pain came back a bit. So that’s still a small issue for me to work through.

About halfway through my cardio, my hip also started up with a bit of discomfort. Not really pain, and it wasn’t detrimental to my cardio session. I’m just glad that neither of these issues has stopped me from doing my workouts because I’m doing really well so far!

Diet this week has been somewhat iffy, but nothing like week 1. Got another 4 day weekend coming up. Tomorrow I’m gonna hit the gym for my last weight workout of the week, and we’ll see how the measuring goes on Sunday. I did Callanetics this week, but haven’t done any Pilates. Bad, I know. It’s a process, though, and I know big changes aren’t gonna happen overnight. They will come in increments.

I just gotta be patient with myself and stay consistent!

Week 3, Day 4 - Full

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Whew! TORE UP THAT GYM TODAY. I think those 4 days off really did the trick because my energy level was through the roof. I was really concerned going in about my knee, but it was really feeling a lot better than last night and this morning, so it turned out to pretty much be a non-issue.

I still need to remember to take it REALLY easy on my legs until my hip is fully better, and, now this knee thing. It wasn’t a hindrance at all to my cardio, which I was mostly afraid of. I didn’t end up doing the cross training. I hopped on the bike to start it, but it was too much on my knee and hip, so I switched back to the elliptical for this workout. I ruled out the treadmill and the stairmaster for obvious reasons.

Weight workout was great. I really felt good after all my sets and feel like this workout was my best so far since starting up again, despite the leg issues. Hell, my legs are pretty huge as it is, so if I take it easy on them for awhile it shouldn’t make that much of a difference.

Whew! I’m so stoked and energized right now, but I need to go to bed. Hehe. Hmmm…what’s for dinner?

Week 3, Day 4 Pre-Blog

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

I’m posting this because my right knee did something really weird last night and now whenever I put pressure on it at certain angles, I get lots of pain. I’m really worried for my cardio, which is the 2nd most important aspect of my routine right now behind diet. I’ll see how it goes tonight when I get to the gym.

1st weight workout of this week. 3 sets, 4 - 7 reps. 30 minutes cardio session. I’m gonna try the cross-training the physical therapist suggested last week at my appointment by warming up with the bike, then moving to the elliptical. I love that elliptical.

Week 3, Day 2 & 3

Monday, December 24th, 2007

I didn’t hit the gym today because I got some much needed rest and slept in a bit and by the time I got over to the gym, which was closing early due to the holiday, it was just too packed. I wouldn’t have been able to get anything done because of all the waiting. I actually did eat my meal, get in the car and head over there with the full intention of working out, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as packed as it was. I thought about doing cardio, but that would have been pointless due to the meal I just finished a few minutes ago.

So I headed home.

I’m definitely gonna do Callanetics tonight, if not Pilates as well. Tomorrow is Christmas, and while I’m not celebrating myself, there will be good food on hand. I will make sure not to gorge myself and really keep track of what I eat. I’m probably gonna do another Pilates or Callanetics workout.

Wednesday, first workout of the week. Then, Friday night and probably Saturday or Sunday morning for my last weight workout for week 3. More than likely Saturday.

Perseverance Pays Off!

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007
I’m really stoked and happy right now because I lost measurement this week on my waist and my hips. That means I did well this week on my diet.

This train is moving along now, I just have to make sure I don’t fall off.

Next week I’m entering the new fat-loss contest / challenge coordinated by MadSano. I’m really apprehensive about posting a before shot at the start of this thing… I’m just not comfortable enough to show myself as I am right now. I was planning on posting my before picture once I had reached a level I’m not ashamed of. I’m still making the decision on whether or not to do the contest because of this. It seems like a small issue to someone who is not me, but body image issues are something I’ve struggled with for all of my life. This is not just something I can brush aside.

That being said, I’m very happy this week about my results and really want to clamp down and nail my diet 100% this week. I still get those strong cravings but I know that if I knuckle down I can fight them off.

Week Three begins!

Week 2, Day 6

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

This was my third workout for Week 2, and I was really tired and lacked energy. My weights were harder to move and I really had to push myself to finish all my sets. By the end of the workout, I was really ready to fall over and lay down to sleep. I just didn’t have it in me to climb onto that elliptical machine for 30+ minutes, so I headed home.

I basically got home, ate my meal and hit the sack. I’m gonna rest up this weekend and get ready for Week 3. I really want to track my meals closely next week.

Week 2, Day 5

Friday, December 21st, 2007

I was pretty tired today, but I managed to hit the gym and get in a great cardio session. Apparently music will be my critical component for staving off boredom and lack of energy.

Didn’t end up doing Callanetics. I got home and was pretty beat. Basically ate my meal and went to bed. I really had to fight off a sudden sugar craving right as I was starting to go to sleep. Luckily I fought it off and didn’t give in to that craving. I think that’s a really good thing, and a sign that maybe I’m finally fully committed to this thing.

Weight training tonight and week 2 will be in the bag. I’m pretty proud of myself for my consistency this week.

Week 2, Day 4

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Woo! Had a great workout tonight. Felt good to hit every weight estimate dead on for my rep count.

Swapped Incline and flat bench again. I really felt my bench workout tonight, which I was really pleased about. The couple from last week didn’t seem that intense and afterward I didn’t feel that burn like I do tonight.

Did pretty good on the diet today. I forgot how easy it is to track this stuff. I know this is also my big weak area. I’ve gotta stay disciplined. *Pulls out his self-ass kicking system and yells, ‘don’t make me have to use this!’*
I may stay home tomorrow night and just do Callanetics. I have a couple tasks that need finishing, and quickly; it’s looking like tomorrow’s gonna be the day for them.

Time to hit the bed.
