Thinking about entering an early season Yakima Marathon, but worried that i
Hey all, I’m getting really excited about this upcoming season of my life and fitness program. I have several triathlons, bike rides, and runs. The soonest races of mine are an early bike ride in May, with my peak races being in July being the Lake Stevens 70.3 Ironman, and the Seattle to Portland bicycle race. My question for you is, that I am thinking about signing up for an early April Marathon race to jumpstart my training. But I really want to peak for the Lake Stevens 70.3 in July. In August I am doing another marathon, and in September I am going to try and run a 50k (Mackenzie River run). Is this too much racing for a season? Will my peak be all screwed up?

Sounds like you have a busy and ambitious race schedule ahead of you. I don’t think an April marathon necessarily would screw up your plans to peak in the summer for the triathlon as long as you have enough of a running base. If it’s going to take an all out commitment to be ready for the marathon, it may be hard to recover from that and then train enough for the triathlon. But it sounds from your earlier posts like your overall fitness base and running base are pretty strong, so you should be able to pull it off. Good luck!

Hey Beagle. Yes, you do have a lot of long distance races coming up. Personally, I would steer you towards a half marathon in the spring to prep you for the half ironman in the summer and full marathon in the fall. Good luck.
