Squat day part 2……

Monday, June 9th, 2008

I want to give a very extra special thanks to Mr. Brent Allen he spent the day with my dad and I today and he filmed my whole squat workout today. You will be able to see the complete workout including some really great training tips from my strength coach. If you are serious about learning how to squat you will want to see this video. It even has demonstrations on how to wrap the knee properly and how to spot the lifter. I also show everyone how the gear is worn by putting it on and then the art of taking the ultra tight suits off.

You will see this clip on one of the fitness shows hosted by me on www. bodybuilding. com For those of you that do not know Mr. Allen he is one of the top fitness industry photographers in the world by shooting the top ladies in the business and he has been published in many of the top magazines over the last decade. If you are in the bodybuilding, fitness or figure competitions I highly suggest you contact him and line up your shoot ASAP. If ya don’t believe me just ask my good friend Jamie Eason as she too calls him the best. You can find Mr Allen on my top friends list. Tell him Barbie Barbell sent ya.

Squat day part 1…..

Squat training 1 month later getting better:>)
Hey everyone well the last time I posted my squat workout was on May 8, 2008. I have had four squat days since my last post and I have made some good solid progress. The whole time I have been training heavy, I have also continued my bodybuilding training as well.

I am very happy with my progress of both, but today I focused on my favorite training day of all and that was SQUAT!!!!

Ladies if you want to build that physique that will turns heads ya gotta SQUAT!! Leg extensions and leg curls are OK for secondary training but nothing will build muscle and lean you out like SQUATS with only one other lift coming close and that is the DEAD-LIFT!! Also do not fool your self thinking that the sled will get the legs in shape like the squat, NOT EVEN CLOSE all you guys loading the sled with 20 45lb plates I invite you to walk over to the squat rack with me and lets just put 10 plates on the bar and lets see what happens. Hey the old saying, “if it sounds to good to be true it most likely is”. I see very few people squating in the gym and those that do are doing half SQUATS at best. In order too get the results you need you must go full range and that means taking the hips below the hight of the knee and breaking parallel as we say in Powerlifting. Well here was how my day went today.

I hope to see more of you squatting:>)

1.

empty bar 45lbs X 20 reps (raw)

2.

empty bar 45lbs X 20 reps (raw)

3.

95lbs X 10 reps (raw)

4.

135lbs X 6 reps (raw)

5.

185lbs X 6 reps (raw)

6.

225 X 6 reps (belt)

7.

255 X 4 reps (belt)

8.

275 X 3 reps (belt, light knee wraps)

9.

300 X 2 reps (powerpants, belt, knee wraps)

10.

320 X 1 rep (full gear w/ squat suit)

11.

345 X 1 rep (Full gear w/squat suit)

12.

Static hold w/405lbs 10second hold

I felt great at the end of the workout and look forward to hitting that 400+lb squat later this year at 114lbs or less. My current weight is 110.2 lbs and my bodyfat is 8.25%.

who said you can’t be strong and lean:>)

peace,

Women and weight training………….

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Good morning everyone!!!! It is a beautiful sunny day here in Texas and I hope everyone here on myspace is off to having a super week. I have gotten a few comments from some ladies recently that I feel I should address in a public forum. I have had several messages lately from ladies that are warning me of the dangers of lifting weights. I hear that lifting at such a young age will stunt my growth, I hear that lifting weights will make me look like a man and I even had some one tell me when I am through lifting weights all my muscle will turn to fat.

So I am here now to tell you all that these are all old myths and complete lies. Just so you all know I am 5′3.75″ tall, my parents are 5″6 and 5″9″ my brother is 6′ even and he lifted heavier weights than I did he was squatting over 400lbs when he was 12 yrs old. I am of average height and there is no malformation of my growth plates at all. If fact my bones are more dense than a normal person and I have never had any injuries. In fact weight training if anything has promoted my growth.

The next issue is I’m going to look like a man because I lift weights. (LOL) Well have you seen any of my pictures. Ladies I squat 400 I bench 240 and I dead-lift 335. When I do lat pulls in the gym my dad has to pull me and the weights down because I use more than I weigh. I can curl my own body weight and I love being strong both physically and mentally. For the ladies that do look like men, well that was their choice to do that. First we as women do not produce enough of the male hormone Testosterone to build muscle like a man, most women I know could lift their entire life and could not put on muscle like a man can. Heck many men can’t put on muscle in fact it is very difficult to look like the over muscular people in the magazines. I have no fear of ever looking like a man. However I also have no fear of having the cottage cheese legs and arms that many women have. I have no fear of eating a good piece of pizza every-once in a while for fear of it going to my hips because my hips are tight and firm. I do physical activities with ease because I do have way above normal strength and I ;love the way it makes me feel. No ladies I will never look like a man but I will never look like grand-ma either.

Now for the biggest laugh, when I am through lifting my muscle is going to turn to fat. First off who ever said I was going to be through with lifting? Lifting and training is as much a part of my every day life as some of you drink coffee. My question to you is how many of you will ever stop drinking your coffee? Here is the fact about muscle. Muscle is the only thing within our bodies that actually burns fat. Nothing else uses fat but muscle. So the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn, unless of course you eat like a cow. Muscle can not, will not, can’t ever turn to fat. that is impossible!!!! Lack of use and a poor diet will cause the muscle too shrink but ladies muscle can not turn to fat. So my advice to you ladies that bash something that you do not know anything about please do some research of your own and let go of these stupid old myths and get your self into a gym and lift some weights and lose the flab. Cardio is not the answer to fat loss, building lean muscle that will burn fat is the answer to your fat problems.

I hope to see more ladies in the gym and less at Start Bucks :>)
Healthy wishes to you all:>)
peace,
Barbie Barbell
