Memorial Day + Family + Beach = trouble for the diet. I have never seen so much snack food in one place. So far though the family has been pretty good about not pushing it on me so I have managed to eat pretty healthy. I was in charge of cooking dinner last night so I did chicken on the grill with green beens and a potato and onion dish. Today will probably be harder because I know the traditional hamburgers will be on the grill at sometime and I do love a good hamburger. I will try to do it in moderation.

Whew!! Got through this weekend with my girls soccer team’s third tournament. They finished 1-1-1 and tied for second in their division. It was their best showing yet. They tied a team on Sunday that had beaten them earlier in February at their first tournament 11-1. We are now looking forward to the State Games in late June.
It was really difficult to watch what I ate while at the tournament but as a whole I think I did pretty well. I also limited myself to just two drinks Friday and Saturday night while socializing with the other parents. To my surprise my bodyfat percentage came down from last week and my weight only went up slightly. It felt good to have a few of the parents ask if I had been working out because they could notice a difference.

Well, I have been watching what I eat for about two weeks now. I have lost about 3 pounds so far. Still trying to get into some routine for working out with my hectic schedule. So, far I have been unsusccesful in increasing my cardio. Basically just get some minimal cardio during the soccer practices for the U-10 girls and U-12 boys. I renewed my YMCA membership this week in hopes of getting a routine set up there for some cardio and weight training. Eventhough it has been just two weeks, I already feel better than I did several weeks ago. I also have found that when I’m lifting it is a great release for a day’s or even a week’s frustration and stress.
One interesting side note with me getting back in shape. My son (11 years old) has taken a keen interest in me lifting weights. I have let him start lifting light weight dumbbells (5 & 10 lbs) and have started him doing some pushups. If anyone has suggestions on things he can do at his age I would love to hear your opinions. I want him to learn and do things right from the beginning and not try to over do it.

Well, I’m excited that I have finally taken the first step and posted "before" pictures to track my progress. Now comes the hard part of finding the time between soccer practices/games and baseball practices/games for this soccer coach/dad to do something for him. I’m ready to do it but I’m a little lost about how is the best way for me to move forward. If anyone has work routine advice I would love to hear from you. I also would love to hear any tips on how to eat healthy when you are on the go and don’t have time to cook or prepare meals at home. Yesterday my day went like this:
In the office by 7:00 am and left work at 5:00 pm. Picked up my daughter and had her at the soccer fields by 5:45. Left the soccer practice and headed to my son’s 7:15 baseball game. (He plays on the Phillies and pitched for the second game in a row, they also won) We got home a little after 9:00 and was time to get the kids ready for bed. I finally got in the bed about 11:00 pm and I thought to myself I need help to be healthy with this kind of schedule.
