Perseverance.. My story

I’d like to take a second to thank everyone on here and bodybuilding.com. Bodyspace has helped me so much over the past 2 yrs since my motorcycle accident. Not everyone knows, but 2 yrs ago while I was on my way to training, a van thought it would be cool to run a stop sign and I ended up in the side of it going 40 mph on my Suzuki gsxr 750. I should have died but instead I broke my right hand in 9 spots, tore 3 tendons, and had 3 dislocations all in my right hand. After surgery, which included 6 rods and 45 stitches, the hand specialist told me it that I probably wouldn’t be able to write again with my right hand or use it like I use to. Now mind you I’m right hand dominant. Also before all this happened I was captain of my power lifting team in high school and played ice hockey in college. I was very active and lifting was a huge part of my life so to hear that kind of news it left me in tears for a while. I endured 9 months of rehab and even with a cast on my arm I started hitting the gym again. My hand permanently doesn’t close the right way and I have 3 spots of arthritis already in it. If you look at some of my pics lifting or whatever you can see my right hand messed up. But now I’m back training harder then ever. A lot of it has to do with how motivated seeing everyone on Bodyspace made me, and also reading the comeback stories of others. I was 22 at the time of accident and now at 24 I’m back to personal training clients again, I’m a fitness and tattoo model, and also a Cellucor sponsored athlete. This site continues to drive me to achieve all I can. Between trying to look as good as everyone else on the site and all the friendships I have made on here I know this site and these friends will always be there. It’s like a community of people all with the same basic agenda and drive, there for each other at all times. I thank all of you and Bodyspace and remember perseverance is perfections closest friend.

I have posted 3 pics in my photos.. 2 of my hand and one of me in the cast check em out

I truly think that it’s wonderful that you shared your story. I’m glad to hear that you didn’t just give up a and accept that fact that you weren’t going to be able to use your right hand anymore.
I believe that there are only select individuals in this world that understand that they don’t have to take no for an answer and that they can go against the odds if they work hard at achieving the task/goal at hand. Like the old saying goes…"what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger"

WOW man that is crazy!! Definatly inspiring for me heading to surgery and having my hand wrapped up for 6-8 weeks ans the rehad on it. Thanks for the inspiration BDUB

  27. Tammydoyle Says:

It’s amazing how the human spirit and the drive to survive can push you through something like that. I crushed my left hand in steel rollers a few years ago, lost a few fingers/sensations and went through 7 months of rehab. You push on through and don’t let the doctors tell you other wise. You have a great story, very inspirational, and I am happy you came out on top too, and proved them all wrong and are still going strong!

  28. co6810 Says:
