This Just In….

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Hey Bodyspace,

Due to some scheduling issues, my Scout Camp combine tryout has been moved from May 10th to June 1st…..I missed the registration deadline, and June 1st will be the next date that I can make it to. We’ll be in Washington DC, at the Old Redskins Park, so that’ll be neat. I may get a chance to see my cousin while I’m out there. (He plays DE for the Redskins….)

Just thought that I’d let you know what was going on. Still training hard, and trying to make all the right decisions to be ready for that day. Wish me luck!!!!

Keep it movin’!

Five Days ‘Til Scout Camp….

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Hey Bodyspace,

It’s me, writing another post in the blog. We’re about five days out from the combine, and this week couldn’t get anymore hectic. Tonight, I’ll speaking at an Arbonne International meeting for National Vice President Maxine King. (If you haven’t heard of the company, go check them out www.arbonne.com), on the importance of detoxifying the body.

Today will also be my last full workout before the combine. The key here will be to get one last pump and push with the muscles, and to train for the 225 Bench press on Saturday.

I also just found out that there are two sessions on Saturday, a 1PM and a 7AM session. (I’m really not feeling that 7AM start time, I’m just not a morning person…..not to mention that I’ll be traveling down to Akron, OH the night before…..YIKES!) Please, please, please GOD don’t let me be in that 7AM session.

Oh well, whatever…..I’m not really nervous about going to the combine, I know I’m going to do well. The rest of the week will mostly consist of static and dynamic stretching and prep work on the tests and drills. (I’m even stretching my fingers to prep for the hand span test.)

A cool plus for me is that my wingspan is measured, and will count towards my size test grade. (This combine works on a 1 to 10 grading scale in categorizes of SIZE, STRENGTH, SPEED, QUICKNESS. Everyone who scores an 8.5 or better overall will receive an invitation to workout privately for NFL scouts!) Me not being the tallest guy, my wingspan and handspan will help me to score higher. I’m 5′8", and I have a 6′1" and my hands measure almost 9" from pinky to thumb, which is bigger than several guys who worked out at the CFL combine who were bigger than me.

The vertical, 40 yard dash, and shuttle are going to shoot my score through the roof. The forty isn’t FAT timed, so I’ll have an advantage there as well. Not to mention that it’s my best event. The vertical as well, with me jumping consistantly over 35", so it shows the scouts I can get up with the bigger guys.

The bench press was beginning to be an issue at the beginning of the year, but my training of the rear delts, lats, and triceps has taken much of the stress off of my chest. If I can get ten reps, I’ll be a shoe-in for the 8.5 score. (I’ll get it anyway, but doing that will only shoot the score higher.)

Anyways, gotta go, eating my second meal of the day.

Take care Bodyspace, and keep it movin’

Seven Days ‘Til Scout Camp…..

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Hey Bodyspace,

I know, I haven’t been on here in a while, but I’ve been mad busy trying to tie up all of the loose ends before I leave for Akron, OH on May 9-10th. (Hey, maybe I can stay at LeBron James’ house……LOL!) We’ll be working out at Kent State University’s Indoor Facility, which is both a plus and a negative, because we’ll be inside from the elements, but we’ll be on astroturf, and I haven’t played on that stuff since 2002. So I’m trying to find shoes to run my routes in, and all that kinda stuff too.

I finished up my last full week of training this week, leaving me with only Monday for hitting the weights, and the rest of the week, I’ll be running the drills only. I feel pretty good about my improvements and even better about my chances of making a roster. I’m way stronger, much faster, and a lot more confident in my own abilities, not to mention less-worried about the competition, on both sides of the ball. Who knows, I may get a shot with an NFL team…….(Now that would be something.)

I’ll be back on here this week, giving you all of the inside scoop on my preparations leading up to Akron. I got a new digital camera, so I’ll be sure to get plenty of pictures, (if  I run into some big-name players, I’ll try to get some pics with them too…..after I beat them.)

Keep it movin’
