Mini-Combine Was A Huge Success!
Friday, October 27th, 2006Today is my girlfriend’s birthday…..I spoke to her early this morning, and last thing she said to me was, "You’re going to do well at that combine…." and boy, was she right!
It all started when I did my Vertical Jump testing. I hit a personal record 39" vertical….up five inches from my best jump. That’s when my trainer said to me, "I gotta feeling this is going to be a good day."
We moved onto my best event in everyone’s opinion: the 40-yard dash. I usually run great hand times, and pretty good electronic times, but today, everything just came together….On my second attempt, I ran an electronic 4.36s! I was on top of the world! My trainer was in shock1 "Holy Sh!t that’s fast!" he says….Coach Gough was very impressed with the forty time coming down from an electric 4.51s. His start, running, and breathing techniques have been a huge factor. I can’t wait until I really get into this new phase of my training….
Went through the whole gambit of tests, which are listed in the contest section. But I improved on the 225 Bench Press by completing 8 reps, and my standing broad jump leaping 10′ -3 3/4" If you wanna see the rest, it’s posted in the contest section…..But like I always say, "keep it movin’," because I sure am…..
Later…..
Today’s Testing Postponed Until Tomorrow….
Thursday, October 26th, 2006In case you were planning to look for the results, my mini-combine has been postponed until tomorrow. The facility was being used for basketball tryouts……
I’ll put them up tomorrow, plus it gives me a chance to rest and prepare myself a little more…..
Testing Today…..
Thursday, October 26th, 2006Today, intstead of working out, I’ll be doing my own "mini-combine" to see what my number are up to this point. Hopefully, I’m not too far off from where I need to be, but I’ll out in a few short hours…..I’ll post the results here on the contests activity section…..
Wish me luck and Keep it Movin’!
What Drives Me…..
Tuesday, October 24th, 2006I read in a sports psychology book once, that it takes about 10,000 Hours of training to attain elite-level mastery of a given sport……Also, that only about 2% of all football players who ever play the game get the opportunity to play at the professional level. So those two statistics made me think for awhile today about two things…..
First, that I am so thankful to God for the opportunity and gifts that he has given me, and secondly, what motivates all those pro’s to stick it out and make it through all the conditioning, tryouts, and combines to get to that level…..Also, what in MY life motivates me, so that I can achieve my goals. So I thought about it, and decided to post it here in this section of my blog…..

This is my girlfriend Steph. She has been my biggest motivator, fan, supporter, friend, critic, and therapist at times…LOL. I know that if I can make it, this will change our live’s for the better…..

This is Mike Gough, my personal trainer. I got hooked up to him through my cousin, Kevin who was one of his clients back in the day. He specializes in combine preparation, so when April comes around and I shock the world, I’ll have him to thank. He gave me a compliment when I first spoke to him. He told me that I was, outside of the Chicago Bears’ Mark Anderson, one of the most athletic people he’s had the chance to get into his program.

This is my daughter Heaven. I’ve never seen a little girl who loves the game of football more than her. She’s always asking me if she can play, but she’s so tiny, I wouldn’t want her to get hurt. I remember when she was a toddler, she used to watch football with me and say, "That’s my Daddy on TV…." but we would be watching NFL games…..LOL! Maybe it was some kind of prophecy…..
Feel free to leave me what motivates you in your training and the goals that you have, maybe we have some of the same motivating factors in common……
p.s. Keep it movin’
Today’s Workout…..
Tuesday, October 24th, 2006Yeah! I’m extremely fired up right now, had another great workout….imcorporated a great hamstring exercise, single-leg hyperextenions……BIG Shout out to Luke Lowery (www.theverticalproject.com) for that exercise….44" Vertical, Here I come!
My legs are really coming together, and getting their strength back. So, tomorrow’s more of a football-specific day, route-running, sprint-work, agility drills.
Definately having a better week…..but I gotta keep it movin’……
Today’s Workout…..
Monday, October 23rd, 2006Hey all! Man today was a FIVE-STAR day at the gym! First off, shout-outs to Jay-Z for making that hot new song, ‘Show Me What You Got’, ’cause I sure did. Today, I hit a personal best 10reps with 205! I was stoked! The rest of workout was smooth sailing from there….Pull ups with a 40lb. dumbbell, Flyes with 70lbs., I was smoking today……
If you’re looking for a great change of pace to crunches for abs, try alligator walks. You place a 25lb. plate beneath your feet on the floor, and get in a push position, then drag the weight under your toes for about ten yards a set…Try three sets and see how your stomach feels….
Well, I’m gonna get outta here, can’t get big typing on a keyboard…..Take care, and keep it movin’!
Today’s Workout…..
Saturday, October 21st, 2006Hey all, today I worked out to replace Friday’s lift, which work kept me too busy to do. I got up early and went to the gym, hit the legs really hard. I feel alot better today, now that I got those personal situations all taken care of.
I also got my hands on some value training information, which I’m going over as I’m writing you this.
My legs are beat! Man the hamstrings, calves, glutes/hips and lower back are really feeling it right now. I’ve gotta start doing some more recovery treatments to help me bounce back a little bit better from my workouts…..they’re intense.
Being sick doesn’t help either, I puked up a protien shake this morning after doing some heavy squats…..That’s a first….
Anyways, I’m still here, keeping it movin’
Today’s Workout…..
Thursday, October 19th, 2006Hey all, today’s workout wasn’t that bad….but my mind wasn’t there at all. (Personal problems…..) If anybody’s got any ideas on how I can retain my focus while I’m in the gym through all this b*llsh!t….PLEASE drop me a line…..
Upper body, yada, yada, yada……(As you can tell, I’m not all that enthused right now…….sorry.)
Oh well, the important thing is, I didn’t quit……And tomorrow’s another day.
Until then……keepin’ it movin’……
Aaaaaah! Off-Days!
Wednesday, October 18th, 2006Today was a well-deserved off-day. However, being the active guy that I am, I’m still going to hit the core a little bit more…..Maybe some stability ball exercises. But no gym today, have to recharge for tomorrow’s workout. Until then……
