My return…

After taking 6 days off from training, no cardio, no lifting, none of it, I felt that I was ready to get back to it…the insomnia went away during this past week and I could sleep soundly again!!!! so I am sure that overtraining was causing it.  During my week off I managed to stay pretty clean with the diet and actually lose a couple of the lbs I had gained..so yay!

Yesterday was my first day back in the gym and I had a great leg day…I realized I could lift a lot heavier than I thought, but was able to target the muscle more and really feel the burn when I took some of the weightload off and upped the number of reps…my legs were shaking towards the end and I almost lost my balance because they were so wiped out!

After squats and lunges I did leg curls, leg extensions and finished with calf raises…my legs felt pretty beat up and I thought I had worked them pretty well…let them know that the vacation was o-v-e-r!!

But the bad news…the insomnia returned last night! aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgh!! I don’t want to take any more time off…aside from insomnia I feel great..why is this happening to me?????????

Good job on keeping it clean through your off week. Always feels good to come back and kill some workouts.
Not sleeping stinks for sure, do you work out late, have a chance to wind down before you hit the sack?

i never get a good night sleep from sunday to monday probably because of job stress or issues or whatever. If you are stressed out at work, that may be causing it.

I suffer from insomnia too. This is what I take for it…

ZMA, 5-HTP (5 mg), and Melatonin (they come in 2 mg tablets and I break it in half… the lower amount the melatonin, the more effective it is). I also take GABA which is very beneficial too.

Arm, As lisa said above, I like the new AVI! You look great!!!

But is your insomnia due to your thyroid problem? I once was Hyperthyroidic and remember the days of severe insomnia. So I am wishing you get some sleep. And hope things get better!

I have problems with insomnia, and sunrise/dawn simulation has been the only thing that has really helped my ability to wake and regulate my circadian rhythm. Get an appliance timer (a few dollars) on a desk lamp and have it turn on 30 min before your alarm for a week. You’ll start to get tired earlier and feel better during the day (morning light is the major cue for your body to reset your internal clock - starts even before you wake up) - it’s great!!!

my insomnia is plain and simply due to overtraining…it went away the whole week I was off, I feel asleep and stayed asleep, then I hit the gym again and BAM, it’s back…I usually can work out up to 3 hrs before I go bed and I’m ok…what I didn’t realize is that if you train 5-6 days a week day in and day out, even if all you do on some days is 30 mins of cardio, then you can fall into the overtraining syndrome…

    Pre workout sups?

If I workout in the evening my Superpump or Animal Pump stays in the cupboard. I can’t take either and sleep within five or six hours.

    Just a thought.

true. I use melatonin if I feel insomnia coming on. It’s not worth it to let myself stay up all night anymore. The bad effects of losing a night of sleep can last for days.

Good job for taking the break! I’m due for one soon, I can feel it. I just wanted to suggest to you for your insomnia, a tea it’s called SleepyTime Extra. It has valerian in it which is a plant extract. It’s like catnip for cats but has the opposite affect on humans. It works really well for me, it’s certainly worth a try. Good luck! And Happy training!

    ooh sleepytime tea, tastes great!

I have that sleepy time! the same one…but what I tried last night that seemed to work was some melatonin…I cut the pill in half- and it worked!
