2009: A New Year

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

While half of the planet has already ushered in the new year, the rest of the plant is deciding on what they’re going to change. Since this is Bodyspace, I am going to focus on the body.

Already at my gym, the amount of people there has increased. I can only imagine the situation will be worse tomorrow. Since, I have been doing this weight loss thing for a year, I think I have a few suggestions.

1. Have a plan - Time is the most important thing in the universe. So, it’s very important that you maximize your time at the gym. "Those who don’t plan, plan to fail" comes to mind in this situation. The night before you should already have in place, what is going to be done the next day. When you enter that gym door, make sure you’re ready with a plan.

2. Nutrition  - This is where I see some of the most comical information around. While I may not have a degree in nutrition, I do have common sense. If you’re going to workout, you have to eat. It’s that simple.

That is all I really have to say right now. Have a Happy New Year.

Fat Flush

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

I know what you’re thinking. Antonio, what in the hell is a "fat flush"? In the ‘Total Six Pack Abs’ written by Mark McManus. The fat flush is for the that:

1. Get super-ripped in a short period of time. For example you have a photo shoot coming up in a week.

2. You need to overcome a weight-loss stall.

I am doing the fat flush for a different. That reason is because this week (12/8-12/12) will be my week off from training. I have trained very hard for the last 3 months and I need a break. I will be sticking to proper nutrition but I feel I don’t need to be consuming a load of calories if I will not be working out.

With the Fat Flush, I will only be consuming 1200 calories per day. That’s right, I said 1200. Stored body fat will be where most of my energy requirements will come from. I will aim to have at least 80% of my calories come from fat. Lets break it down:

30 grams of protein = 120 calories

30 grams of carbs = 120 calories

107 grams of fat = 963 calories

That is it.  As with anything, I will keep you all updated.

Anabolic Diet: Midweek Carb Spike

Monday, December 1st, 2008

I have been on the Anabolic Diet for the last few months and the results have been great. Now, I have included H.I.I.T running into my cardio routine 4x a week and I jump rope on Saturdays. As you can imagine by Wednesday, my glycogen stores are sapped due to the H.I.I.T running.

In the book ‘The ANABOLIC Diet’, Dr. Mauro DiPasquale talks about having a midweek carb spike to give you an extra "kick". He also notes that you can consume up to 1,000 calories in high GI foods. Ofcouse after that meal you go right back to high/fat protein/low carb diet. Dr. Mauro states, " a little jolt of carbs can be very productive as needed. It will drive amino acids into the cell and increase anabolic drive and, as long as you go back the Anabolic Diet, you’ll avoid laying on fat."

Well, that is fantastic! I will keep you all informed.
