They just don’t understand…

I went to a wedding this weekend with one of my friends from back in the day. I was actually really excited to see her and catch up with her. I was super stoked to let her in on my new goals and my new life since we last talked. As we started our 2 hour drive, I quickly figured out that she had no idea what a life of training and supplemenation was all about. Trying to convey it to her was like talking to a brick wall and I quickly found out that the only conversation that was going to happen was about the past and the fun times we used to have. It’s tough to be working at such an awesome place where everyone understands your goals and then go out into the "real world" and discover that most people don’t have a clue how to stay healthy and have no interest in getting that way. Then when you try to talk to them about your life-style and your diet plan and everything they either quickly change the subject or stare blankly at you like you’re from another universe. It was like that for the past two days. I was trying to explain how awesome my job was and how we helped people reach their fitness and life goals and all anyone ever said was, " so you work at bodybuilding.com, do you lift weights?". Yep, not too intelligent. As I try to explain what my training for figure consists of, I lose people’s attention and quickly see that no one cares. Also, you start talking to people and they will make the comment that they would love to go to the gym, but they are too busy or they just can’t see the benefit of being in the gym all the time. It’s a sad day when you realize that our bodybuilding community is definitely not everywhere. You try to motive others around you to get off their butts and go to the gym or go for a run, change their eating habits or just live healthier in general and it’s kinda a downer when no one responds. It was funny how my friend’s mom kept saying how skinny I was, like it was a bad thing. I just smiled and said yep I’ve been training really hard. I guess that’s the ultimate payoff, when people you haven’t seen since high school notice that you’re thinner and look better than when they knew you. We have an awesome community here and I would never trade in what I have for the life I used to live.

Hi. I know what you mean when no one understands what you’re trying to accomplish! Keep up the good work and keep your head up.
On another note how does one go about working for bodybuilding.com?? :)
