Lifting / Straining Headaches?

February 12, 2008

Hello virtual community! I have a question about an "issue" that has come about quite suddenly and I am hoping that some of you can offer a little insight about.

As my Bodyspace page mentions, I am an amatuer figure competitor currently training for shows this spring. I take a few nutritional supplements but nothing exoctic and nothing new (i.e.fish-oil, BCAA’s, protien powder, post-workout drink and creatine- monohydrate) I have been taking these supplements for almost 7 months.

About three weeks ago I was attempting a new squat excercise suggested my my PT, and I did not exactly do it correctly. Long story short, I banged the bar into my neck and it was fairly sore that evening and next day. I used heat, message etc. and in a few days it was mostly a thing of the past.

Well, since then I have been getting immediate and significant headaches virtually every time I workout! As soon as I try to to a pull- up or fairly heavy deadlift where I am straining…bam! It comes from the back to my temples. So far I have been able to keep going, but it sure isn’t fun anymore and quite honestly, it’s somewhat spooky. It calms down during my workouts when I am doing fly’s and things with dumbells etc. But dips, pull-up and deadlifts and the like bring it on immediately.

When I get home I take a tylenol and a few hours later it’s history. I don’t have it again until I go back to the gym.

Anybody with similar a experience, or possibly a remedy?

Thanks

Can’t gain weight!

September 29, 2007

After switching to a "Clean Diet" in May, my metabolism has responded well and my weight dropped from 124 to 113. I am trying everything I can think of to put on muscle weight and so far I am still at 113.

I am suplementing with Creatine, eating Metbolic Drive protien powder and plenty of healthy food, but the weight won’t come back (unless I resort to bagels).

Dr. told me today at a routine check-up I am too thin. Where I live I would just about bet he gets to say that once a year….maybe.

Anyway, I am training for a figure competition and don’t want to be too skinny. Any thoughts?
