Build your own gym
Every time I visit a commercial gym, I can expect the most out-of-shape guy in there to approach me and deliver unsolicited pearls of lifting wisdom. Maybe I have a kind face. Maybe it’s because I use only the adductor machine and wear a sky blue leotard. Regardless, I work out at home now. A few readers have asked about modifications and attachments I’ve made. I refer these readers to my photo section where I’ve posted a few new pictures. My high-pulley is as smooth as any I’ve ever encountered in a commercial gym. It is built to withstand 700lbs and uses plates I already own, instead of adding an additional dedicated weight stack that I’ll have to move. I modified my cage to include a low pulley that works block-and-tackle with the first. I’ve made a host of attachments from materials found at your local home improvement store. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I really love turning people on this stuff, particularly chains!

Hey guy, I just re-read your blog, and it occurred to me that I could probably build something to do cross pulls, using pulleys. Neither the club where I currently work-out, nor my basement gym have anything like this. Thanks for the idea! I’m off to Home Depot.

lol….i miss working out at home…but ofcourse that was back when i was still freeloading off my parents and could use their expansive basement. i’ve found my ways to avoid unsolicited "advice" at my gym though…a baseball hat worn very low to block eye contact and earphones

You think you have it bad! It is worse when you are a girl. Some trainer-in-training at my gym overheard me talking about my shoulder goals and came over with all kinds of suggestions on how to build my shoulders. He just kept saying "This is what I do for my shoulders - you know, you don’t have to lift heavy to achieve the muscular look you want…" and I couldn’t help to look at his scrawny skinny body and think "Is this guy serious? I am bigger than he is!" OK, not heightwise…

*chuckling at the sky-blue leotard. Well written, good sir. I hope you are well. I am, at least, er, well I am at least conscious, or I would not be typing this.

Sorry, I don’t know how to reply to your comment at my page - couldn’t find the necessary button.////
This is a really good question and although I can’t advocate experimenting on oneself, I do it all the time! I used to get a bunch of the little nitrogen balance strips & use them after various protein meals, different exercises, after fasting, in the morning, etc. I’d take big loads of various proteins & plot my estimated nitrogen balance. I wasn’t happy with the results…but it wasn’t due to the quality of protein. It was usually that I simply wasn’t getting enough. I buy cheap 100% Whey protein from fairly reputable manufacturers. I don’t buy any of the over-hyped stuff. Best of luck! al

Thanks for the reply! I’ve seen your progress photos and they are very dramatic. I don’t hope to achieve such…um…chiseled look and can only bow in respect:)
The question was actually not if the protein works but how to detect counterfeit stuff. The guys sell protein for a reasonable rate - which raises the suspicions, because living in Moscow one expects to pay at least 40-50% more for the imported goods.
Can I ask you a question? I’ve just started full-scale supplementing of protein to my diet. Is it really healthy to ingest 200 grams
