Epstein? Well, she dared me…….

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Yesterday, baygirl65 dared me to post a pic of me with an afro, circa late ’70’s (see yest’s blog).  I believe life’s too short, and a gift, not to be able to laugh at yourself.  Never let it be said that I’m a wuss…..LOL.  So here I am, from 1979.  The truth is out…….I was the “white sheep” of the group Earth, Wind & Fire (a fav of mine, btw, from the 70’s).  I wonder why they kept me under wraps…….   :D     Nowadays, the real shocker for me isn’t how funny I looked, but the years.  30 years ago?!!  Egads.

WEEK 7:  Alternating cycle  -  HEAVY week  vs  high reps week

Today’s workout was a change-up.  On deck was heavy leg day. But the legs were tired when I got up, from yesterday’s cardio blast in spin class. I didn’t think my legs had enough in the tank for a smash’em up morning of heavy squats & hack squats, with dropsets thrown in, just because. And while the back is getting better, another day of rest couldn’t hurt. Especially since my back issues began 2 wks ago on heavy leg day.  If I’m going to possibly wrack my back again on leg day, I want enough energy to make it count.

WORKOUT THIS MORNING  —  CHEST:

(Heavy:  5-8 reps, 45-60 sec’s rest)

–  Incline bench press  (5 sets, dropset on last set)

–  Incline flyes  (2 sets, dropset on 2nd set)

–  Decline bench press  (4 sets, dropset on last set)

–  Decline flyes  (2 sets, dropset on 2nd set)

–  Flat bench press  (3 sets, dropset on last set)

–  Pec dec machine  (2 sets, dropset on 2nd set)

CARDIO:  30 min’s of intervals on the elliptical.  HR 135-150.

Just getting to the gym IS a successful workout!   :D

Aging humor……….what NOT to do!!!!

YIPES!!!  Cover your eyes if you have a weak stomach.   :D

At some point, ladies have GOT to give up the Daisy Duke shorts.  Below the pic is a Senior Dress Code, for us more ‘mature’ & fashion challenged workout fanatics.

Many of us ‘Old Folks’ (those over 50, WAY over 50, or hovering near 50) are quite confused about how we should present ourselves.

We are unsure about the kind of image we are projecting and whether or not we are correct as we try to conform to current fashions. Despite what you may have seen on the streets, the following combinations DO NOT go together and should be avoided:

 1. A nose ring and bifocals

 2. Spiked hair and bald spots

 3. A pierced tongue and dentures

 4. Mini skirts and support hose

 5. Ankle bracelets and corn pads

 6. Speedo’s and cellulite

 7. A belly button ring and a gall bladder surgery scar

 8. Unbuttoned disco shirts and a heart monitor

 9. Midriff shirts and a midriff bulge

10. Bikinis and liver spots

11. Short shorts and varicose veins

12. Inline skates and a walker

And last , but not least…….

13. Thongs and Depends

Weekend workout embarassment - YIKES!

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Saturday morning I was at the gym working shoulders & cardio on the elliptical.  Had a major faux pas.

I was sitting on a bench doing bentover rows with dumbbells.  I was straining on the last couple reps on a set when I audibly passed wind!  I didn’t even know I had gas.  There was a girl about 4-5 ft behind me doing pushups.  I thought to myself, "please Lord, let her have earphones on & the music cranked up".  After finally working up the courage to glance back……she did not have earphones on.  DOH!!

I’m laughing now, but I was not on Saturday morning.  Gotta have a sense of humor.

But, I still believe:

JUST GETTING TO THE GYM IS A SUCCESSFUL WORKOUT!!     :-)
