Broken record
Weekend weakness wussness woes. Say that 3x fast. My weekends of late are like a broken record. Weekend diet sucks; during the week it’s good. Weekend diet sucks; during the week it’s good. Weekend diet sucks; during the week it’s good. And so it goes……Stress eating. Strange how I generally hold it together during the week, then let go on the weekend. At least I got in a good cardio & abs workout on Saturday. Plus, a friend took our girls for an over-nighter Saturday. So my wife & I grilled out some steaks, and horrors!……..I had a beer with that steak. Blue Moon. Put it in the freezer for 10 min’s before popping that baby. It was goooooooood.
This is turning into a bulk period. I can see definite size increase in arms, lats, chest & quads. The cycling of my workouts has been working towards that end. I’ve been staying in the 6-10 rep range the last few months. But within that framework, I’ve been drastically changing things up from week-to-week: Changing the exercises, order of exercises, dropsets, supersets, rest between sets & occasional high rep sets. But I’m not giving up on the diet focus to cut a few lbs of bodyfat. So here’s a repeat from that genius Tim Allen character in that Oscar worthy flick Galaxy Quest: "Never give up. Never surrender". So…….you guessed it……here’s the clip:
Galaxy Quest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI5hi4c4y9k
WORKOUT THIS MORNING — CHEST:
(6-10 reps)
– DB incline bench press (5 sets, 45-60 sec’s rest)
– Incline flyes (4 sets, 20 sec’s rest)
– DB flat bench press (4 set’s, 45-60 sec’s rest)
– Flyes (3 sets, 20 sec’s rest)
– Hip pushups (4 sets, 45-60 sec’s rest). Stu, these hurt.
– Pec dec machine (3 sets, 20 sec’s rest)
CARDIO: 30 min’s of intervals on the elliptical, HR 150-170.
ABS: Roman Chair knees to chest + situps on decline situp bench (4 sets each, 20 sec’s rest)
Just getting to the gym IS a successful workout!

Great workout AL! I used to have a bad cheating problem on the weekend but have had to work so many of them lately that i have been doing pretty good! plus i dont keep any food in the fridge, haha that helps! the monchers would live on frozen chicken nuggets so makes it easy for now! Glad you enjoyed your beer, friday was such a crazy day i had to take a shot of jager to deal with the last client! haha mediscinal purposes only and luckily it is only ever 4 or 5 months that i need to medicate myself so i dont kill somebody! haha have a great day!

Doesn’t it feel better to be back at it on a Monday? Now all that bad eating during the weekend will now be sweated away. (until this weekend, huh..lol) Good job this morning. After my weekend workouts (Fri-Sun blog post) I am taking this evening off. Clean eats the rest of the week, Al.
@drdeb…..I remember those days of the self medication with the jager (or what I can remember)

We have the same weekend diet. I am failing on my goal here and you are failing to lead me.
Guess we got to pull up the boot straps. I am going to try pull ups for the first time since I injured the tendon in June. I’ll do 4 sets and have my fingers crossed I can get in 2 reps/set.
Better get to it. Only here for a short time today as I have a meeting at the police academy this afternoon. Would prefer to stay here, since it is on the other side of the city, but director says I need to go. Probably b/c I am the only one who knows where it is and also the programming we do for them.

Never give up. Never surrender. Words to live by. You will get over the weekend wussness. Maybe go for ‘one meal wussness’?

Love that movie! Sunday is my struggle day since it is a rest day and the day I sit and watch football. I soooo want to be continually snacking while I watch tv… an old habit that wants to rear it ugly head.
Since I love push ups, I have to ask what are hip push ups?

Great workout this morning. The weekends are killing me. I can do just fine during the weeks, but come Friday, it’s a beer…..then I eat too much for two days. The great thing is the shame I feel after the over-eating…..Have a great week. You’re off to a good start.

HIP PUSHUPS: Instead of putting your hands out to the side even with your shoulders, put them out to the side further down your body, even with your hips or lower torso. The hands will face out at this angle. Really isolates the pecs & they’re HARD.

Ah…I just call them by a different name…you’re right…they hurt…lol

Weekends are hard to diet on. Family time and all, makes it difficult to stick to strictness. The work week is more structured and so is your food. It’s only natural to want to cut loose a little bit.
I haven’t had a Blue Moon in awhile, I love those. Bet it was awesome with the grilling.
Great work out!!!

Hmm, I’ve seen people doing the hip push-ups before.. never tried em myself. They def look challenging!
I have a similar problem, though my dieting coincides less with weekends and more with my stress levels from upcoming exams. It is easy to want to go out and buy food instead of cooking. I like the suggestion of a cheat meal per week (though phrased differently up there haha) by the other commenter.

I’m with you on the weekend diet,(unfortunately).
Great workout Al, keep it clean this week and we’ll attack the weekend,(again), when it gets here.

I’m the same way Al… I struggle with eating clean on the weekends. During the week it is easy for me, but the weekends kill me!

I think we are all there on the weekend diet. I know that my meals are very well scheduled and defined during the week because everything else is scheduled so the diet just fits. Late sleeping and lack of control make the weekends unpredictable. Great workout!

A bowl of cookies and cream count as clean eating? mmmm, didn’t think so. But it was good.

mitotropin ended my continuous dieting train wrecks!
