Monday chest day

My gym friend Owen placed 4th in the Over 35 Masters division in Saturday’s bodybuilding show.  See my previous blog post if you’re interested in how it went & my observations.  I posted a pic in my photos section of Owen & I.  He looked great.  He told me this morning that he weighed in the 190’s (I forget the exact number) on Saturday.  He had lost a total of almost 50 lbs from when he started his contest diet.  Wow.  And I’m such a wuss on diet, trying to cut just 5-7 lbs of BF.  I won’t go into the details, but I’ve been a major stress eater the past few months, which has halted progress.  Owen has given me some inspiration to nail the diet more consistently.

Music choice today is a twist on Bad Bad Leroy Brown, by Jim Croce, for my man Owen.  Big Bad Owen.

WORKOUT THIS MORNING  —  CHEST:

(6-8 reps, 60 sec’s rest)

–  Bench press  (6 sets, last 2 sets superset with flyes)

–  Incline bench press  (4 sets, last 2 sets superset w/ incline flyes)

–  Decline bench press  (4 sets, last 2 sets superset w/ decline flyes)

CARDIO:  25 min’s of intervals on elliptical.  HR 155-165.

Just getting to the gym IS a successful workout!   :D

Dude! YOU are bad, bad, Leroy Brown! Great chest workout. I gotta tell you, I am a little put off by these competitions where 35 qualifies as "Masters". LOL I’m just not ready for that designation yet ;) Oh well, speaking of inspiration, I better get my butt to the gym. Great post and have an awesome day!

    50 pounds? Damn.

If 35 is Masters, then my 44 would be what…..Fossil?

I’m sure your progress wasn’t halted, maybe slowed down a little. With all the great workouts you have, your body has no choice but to keep burning fat.

What an inspiration you are AL! Life isnt easy and it is always such a relief to know that others struggle in the same area that we do. I thought it was a very thoughtful message you left to mytam203. in regards to her family problems and stress eating. Im lucky I usually stop eating when stressed, which I am blessed to not get stressed very often. although it would be nice to not want to eat all the time :) you are the man Al, keep going strong!

Great job Al. You just keep getting better and better

Sounds like you had a great experience at the show. Your comments made me laugh. "blimp size mammos" HAHAHA.
But on the other side the tan has to be that dark for the muscles and definition to show more under the bright lights. Same thing with the make up. It has to show up on stage. That’s the only purpose such heavy make up and uber dark, fake tans.
We are only human and stress eating is human nature. As Dr. Oz said, when cave men stressed, what was it over? Not having enough food. So "naturally" when we stress we turn to food.
You are rockin it! Keep up the amazing work!

Owen’s body fat must be in the single digits. Disciple.

  8. bradl Says:

Yeah, um, I can spell LOL

    Discipline.

Glad you had fun at the show. :) Awesome workout. Turn that stress into something more positive; stay away from the food! ;)

I’m with you 100%, diet is SO hard for me. I can be disciplined enough to Schedule in my gym time and do it yet I slack on the weekends and mess it all up. Stress really makes me want to eat more of that comfort(bad) food as well. sighhhh

  12. deweydw Says:

Speaking of the diet. I had a craving this weekend and I gave in. Popeyes chicken and biscuits. I just love their biscuits. Great job on the work out. Keep working hard and maybe one day you can be on that stage with a dark tan in your boxers. No thong, right? :D

  13. Ledford45 Says:

Nice job on the chest workout and the observations from the show. I need to get to one someday.
If I can ever be disciplined enough with my diet, I’m sure the changes would come…just have to get there. Keep after it Al.
