Get ready to rumblllllle
I’m going to my 1st bodybuilding competition on Saturday. I know what you’re thinking. But no…………I’m not competing onstage.
Me competing on stage, wearing nothing but a speedo……….never….gonna….happen. Never. Ever. Nope. Nada. A fellow at my gym is competing. Owen is 46. My hero.
Strange phenomena with DOMS this morning. Had it in my lats, 2 days after a back workout. If I get DOMS, it’s usually the day after. Occasionally I get it 2 days after a workout. I wonder why some workouts bring on DOMS the day after, and sometimes it’s 2 days after. What’s the difference?
My respiratory recovery is coming along, though I do have lingering chest congestion. I hit HIIT full blast this morning for cardio. I had a little bit of chest pain when I got to huffing & puffing, but I didn’t spiral down into coughing spasms.
Quote for the day, for all the folks going through a rough spell. Never give up, just keep your eye on the prize & a long-term perspective: "A man is not finished when he’s defeated; he’s finished when he quits." (Richard Nixon). Everyone have a great day. GOD IS GOOD.
WORKOUT THIS MORNING — SHOULDERS:
– Military press (4 sets, 6-10 reps, 60 sec’s rest)
– Front DB raises (4 sets, 15-18 reps, 30 sec’s rest)
– Overhead DB press (3 sets, 6-8 reps, 60 sec’s rest)
– Lateral DB raises (3 sets, 15-18 reps, 30 sec’s rest)
– Overhead Arnold DB press (3 sets, 6-8 reps, 60 sec’s rest)
CARDIO: 5 min’s LIIT on elliptical. Then 20 min’s HIIT, HR 160-170. Then 5 min’s LIIT.
ABS: Laying down leg lifts over the head (5 sets, 15-20 sec’s rest)
Just getting to the gym IS a successful workout!

Hey! My husband is competing this weekend, too!

Even if you don’t want to get up on stage, why not set a goal to look like you could?
Maybe if you push it that far the speedo thing will just be a formality.

Way to power through the cardio! That looks like a Great shoulder routine. Have fun at the comp - maybe you’ll be the first ever bodybuilder to compete in swim trunks!

Im glad im not the only one who cant imagine themselves on stage in not much clothing! haha good job on the cardio! DOMS, complex thing, depends on blood supply and hydration to affected muscles. Youve been sick, probably a little dehydrated, takes the body a little longer to get to the inside of the larger muscle bellies and start getting all the damage repaired and the inflammatory mediators kicking into gear etc etc. it is all in the blood!

Thx for the explanation Deb. Er, I mean DR Deb. Since you’re a vet, I’m taking this to mean my bod is a lean, mean & fine-tuned machine, like that of a thoroughbred race horse.

Glad to hear that your recovery is coming along well. Great workout as always.

Good to see you’re feeling better and you were able to go full tilt. Nice shoulder work.
I have never been to a bb comp either, have to make it a point to do that one of these days. I couldn’t get up on stage, but like Crab said, I want to look like I could.

"My hero" Wow. That says something about Owen considering your workout intensity.

sounds like a good time…I still haven’t been to see a comp yet myself, I will have to look into that..have fun

Is it wrong for a man to wear a thong
November 5, 2009 at 10:52 am
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES. It is wrong. Thong is wrong. Thong is wrong. Thong is wrong.

I knew there was a reason I came to BB to read your blog today.
The 1st competition I went to was just this year and I was so into it. I loved the mens BB routines best. They really knew how to work those muscles and pose great and somehow one guy even made his ab’s (dance) to the music. Warren Branch was the guest poser and I’m pretty sure my chin was on the floor when he walked right by me. I felt like I was seeing a Superhero IN PERSON. Have FUN! Remember Clap and YELL.

I think we should take up a collection to see if we could get AL into a thong! I for one would pay some money and im sure there are alot of other out there in bb.com land that would as well! So, AL, how much would it take?
November 5, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Deb, there’s not enough money in this universe, or in any & all other possible universes, to get me in a thong. Even more so than a speedo……Never….Gonna….Happen.
November 5, 2009 at 1:53 pm
I don’t think I can contribute to this particular fund… (No offense Al)
