DIET — Don’t be a pansy (Day 50 of 60)

LEG DAY………I have to admit I hate squats.  When going hard & done right, they’re just killer.  Takes all my concentration to go hard & use good form.  I do’em, but I don’t like’em.  However, the workout was good this morning.  For the 1st time in a while, my lower back gave me no problems.  No soreness or muscle tweaks.  It’s been a long week with not enough sleep the 1st half of the week.  Legs were supposed to be on Wednesday, but there just wasn’t enough gas in my tank then or yesterday.  I’ve had 2 good nights of sleep, so today was a good day to hit legs & end the week.  I am READY for a rest weekend.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.  Thanks for reading.   :D   

WORKOUT THIS MORNING  —  LEGS:

(8-10 reps, 45-75 sec’s rest)

-Smith Machine squats  (7 sets)  -  Superset w/ leg press on 5th & 6th sets;  dropset on 7th set

–  Hack squats  (4 sets)  -  Dropset on 3rd & 4th sets

–  Calf raises  (6 sets)  -  Superset w/ seated calf raise on 4th-6th sets

–  Leg curls  (4 sets)  -  Dropset on 3rd & 4th sets

–  Leg extensions  (4 sets)  -  Dropset on 3rd & 4th sets

–  Walking lunges  -  25 lb DB in each hand  (3 sets)  -  Each set superset w/ standing calf raise, holding same DB wts

ABS:  Crunches w/ 10 lb wt  (4 sets)  -  Dropset on 3rd & 4th sets

Just getting to the gym IS a successful workout!   :D

    Squats and lunges Al, my two worst/best enemies. Happy to see I’m not the only one…and I don’t think it gets any better. Enjoy your weekend.

    I used to hate them, now I’m just sort of indifferent. I think about all the growth hormone I’m releasing. I’m thinking about my metabolism staying high. I’m thinking about not having chicken legs (on me anyway). I’m thinking about a strong core and back. Hmm… maybe they are wonderful after all….

    I like what squats do FOR me Damien. But I sure don’t enjoy DOING them. Best overall exercise there is. But when doing them right, to failure, and w/ dropsets……..brutal.

    Good lord man! With that sort of leg workout, I’m surprised you didn’t have to get carried out of the gym!!!

    I like to do curtsey squats myself. I don’t mind squats but my legs are usually tired from running so it makes them even harder.
    Enjoy your weekend. I have an 8 mile run planned and a 3 mile walk with my daughter!

    I also have a bad back and maybe this is why legs are hard for me. I get tweaks in my lower back doing squats sometimes and it is very frustrating.

    Some people can do more volume then others. I find if I am going as intesne as I can then I don’t need to do as much volume. Once you have killed the muscle, hitting it again and again isn’t gong to make it more dead. You will just cause injuries and overtraining. So if you are making no progress try less reps and more intensity.
