Insomnia — Back for another round

It sucks when insomnia strikes for more than a night or two.  I got virtually no sleep last night, after last week’s difficulty getting sleep.  Thankfully the weekend gave me a reprieve.  The whole family was sick at the end of last week & over the weekend.  I’m the least hit, so still getting to the gym……..COMMITMENT + DETERMINATION + CONSISTENCY.

WORKOUT THIS MORNING  —-  ARMS  (still high reps:  15-20 reps per set to failure, 45-60 sec’s rest)

BICEPS:  Straight bar curls (6 sets) & dumbbell curls.  (4 sets)

TRICEPS:  Reverse cable tricep extensions (6 sets) & straight bar tricep extensions.  (4 sets)

BICEPS & TRICEPS:  Straight bar curls followed by close grip bench press.  Alternate twice more.  (15-30 sec’s rest)

CARDIO:  30 min’s on the stairmaster.  Heartrate 145-155.

Just getting to the gym IS a successful workout!    :D

Great workout. Sorry to hear about your insomnia. I tend to wake up 6-8 times a night. Insomnia is exceptionally frustrating. I hope it resolves soon. All the best.

Insomnia sucks…are you on a lot of stimulants? Have you been to a Dr?

uuugh…my neighbor suffers from insomnia and I always tell her I CAN’T imagine what that is like….I’m so wiped from the day, that I’m out within 2 seconds of my head hitting that pillow! I’ve heard that Jasmine tea is a great natural sleep aid….Good for you for still getting in your workout…and hope the sleep gets better!

I usually get that on Sunday night for some strange reason.

  5. coleyspoint Says:

Great dedication to hit the gym in spite of the insomnia!

I HATE having insomnia!! I feel your pain (or, in this case, tiredness!). But great job on your workout!

  7. tryingforme Says:

Great commitment. Sorry to hear about the insomnia. Keep pushing.

On further reflection, I’m thinking about the short nap I took after lunch yesterday, which the whole family did since we were all sick over the w/e. This may have thrown me off schedule. I HOPE that’s all it is.

I don’t know if you’ve read my comment on your previous post, but disrupted sleep can also be a sign of overtraining…

  10. bradl Says:

    Mostly determination :-)

I was thinking overtraining too, but figured you knew to watch for that.

  11. Al--1961 Says:

I really don’t think I’m overtraining. I split up my lifting, and don’t hit the same muscles for 4-5 days. I’ve been doing a little more steady-state cardio, so I’m not going balls-to-the-wall every single workout.

One word, Al… Ambien…. Back in October when I returned to Iraq from leave in Michigan I wasn’t sleeping well at all (1 to 2 hours a night for about 10 days). I used Ambien for about three nights and was back on schedule. I only needed to talk half a pill before going to bed, and another half if I woke up during the night.

Good to see that it’s not stopping you from getting to the gym, looks like it was a great workout. Great job…

  13. Ecnewyx Says:

Another word: BATMAN. He has massive insomnia, but that doesn’t stop him.

  14. Ecnewyx Says:

    So you’re like Batman.

Dude … insomnia - had the same problem for a spell. I am usually in bed before 9:00 every night. I cut the caffeine after 3:00 PM and have not had any more issues. You might want to try some Gaba powder too. Get the NOW Foods brand - it is fairly inexpensive and it works quite well. Just mix it with a bit of water and slam it before you hope in the sack. Been using it for quite a while and it does make a difference.
