Just a Bite

Good morn….

WAIT!!!

Stryka says not everyone is reading my writing in the morning, so we can’t be the Cute and Perky Breakfast Club!

So…hmmm….

I propose we have two divisions of the Club.  That sounds smart and fancy, doesn’t?  We have DIVISIONS!

Those of you who read in the morning will continue to be the Cute and Perky Breakfast Club

Those of you who read at night are the Cute and Perky Moon Shine Club!!!!  WOO HOO!!!

Y’all let me know how you like the new name!!!

If you read at noon, decide.  There are no nooners!  You must make a choice.  Firmly and decisively!!!!!

Kapish?!

Speaking of making a choice…

Sometimes you have to make choices.

Cardio instead of lunch with friends.  Lifting instead of TV.

But one choice I see people making too much of these days is the choice to have “just a bite” of something.

It’s like I tell me kids when we go to a restaurant.  You make your choice, and you have to stick with it.

I hate buffets, because they make you think you can have a little taste of everything.

If you are dieting or just trying to eat healthy, the last thing you need is a little taste of everything.

Getting a taste of something was a discipline I did not learn until I was well into maintenance.

When I had been at goal for almost a year, my friend Coach Little (the Nazi) knew I was going to sing at a wedding.

He knew I would be eating at a buffet and serving wedding cake.  He made it his business to know what I was doing.  He stuck with me to goal.

He told me, “Have one bite of roll.  At the wedding, have one bite of cake.  That’s all you’re really wanting.  Just a taste.”

And he was right.  That did it.  I had been working out so hard, and following my Hot Friend Kevin’s diet for so long that I didn’t crave the cake like I thought I would.  And having the one bite made me not think about it all evening.

BUT…listen here!!!  That is a learned discipline I allowed in after many, many months of MAINTENANCE.  I already told y’all that a few lines ago.  That means it’s important, and I want you to REALLY get it.

Get it?!

I did not follow this principle while still trying to lose.  Because one bite did not KILL a craving.  It WORSENED a craving.  It DEEPENED it.

And that “one bite” led to a slice, which led to a day off plan.

I think of it almost as something I had to earn.

If there are donuts in the break room today or a cake in your kitchen, do not have “just a taste”, “just a dab”, or “just a bite”… it just doesn’t work that way.

Throw those phrases out of your diet lexicon.

What does work is the willpower you obtain through the strength to deny the craving.

That works all day long.  Calorie free.  So try just a dab of willpower!

I promise, you will not die from denying a craving.

And success tastes better then a bite of anything I have ever had…even my Oh Yeah! Bars…and y’all KNOW I love them!!

I hate it when people say…."oh just one little taste won’t kill ya!" That’s like offering a shot to an alcoholic. Another great blog Adina!

Awesome… That’s my problem… willpower. Not the willpower to train, that’s easy and I love it. My problem is growing up LOVING food… ALL of it. It’s the taste that gets me. There are SO many foods that I love, and most of them aren’t "clean". I try so hard to keep my diet in check, but that’s where I always fall off… I admire your willpower, maybe one day I will grow some fortitude and end the cycle…

This is true. I have this problem. I will go out with friends and they will pressure me to just have a bite. It’s the worst when it’s several people at once telling me to take a bite of one thing and usually I do to shut them up…but then i’ve doomed myself because if it tastes good, I will get more….and now i’ve ruined an entire day. It makes me so upset…upset with myself for not standing up to them and upset with them for putting the spotlight on me to taste something I already told them I can’t have while they are supposedly my "good friends".
