Why don’t you show your face….

Friday, July 25th, 2008

In around about terms that is what another Bodybuilding.com member/friend asked me the other day.  That is a fair question.  But here is some that I will submit.  Why doesn’t Ford/Chevy/etc. show their unfinished prototypes?  Why doen’st an artist display his or her unfinished art?  Its very simply…..they are not done yet.  Neither am I.  Soon enough I will take my mask off and say, "Here’s the finished product".  Until then….under lock and key baby!

Short goal #1….Accomplished! Step forward #2!

Friday, July 18th, 2008

July 12th was my birthday (32….ouch).  Dealing with the pain of that was much easier hitting my weight goal of 210!  Bodybuilding.com has been such a good motivator for me and I appreciate all of my friends blogs and before and after pictures.  God has blessed me with finding this sight and using it to start and get myself back into shape.  My newest goal is to get to 200 by August 12th…..my wife and I’s eight year anniversary.  Blessings to you all!

Acts 16:31, "Believe in the LORD Jesus Christ and you will be saved!"

Your never too old to Bodybuild!

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

If your 59 or younger and need encouragement in your bodybuilding efforts….look no further than oldsuperman (Ed Cook) and Captain Ahab (Errol Hannigan).  I used to think that anyone over 35 was ‘old’.  Granted that was when I was in highschool and Thirty Something was on television (dating myself I am).  Honestly I remember catching part of an episode of that series and thought, "Who the heck would want to watch that?".  Now that I’m going to be turning 32 this Saturday my perspective has slightly changed.  However, I’ve read different ‘authorities’ that claim that after the age of 35  its all downhill.  My friends, that is only 3 years and 2 days from being the cold hard reality of my life.  But I don’t have to accept what happens to the average 35 year old who sits on a couch watching reruns of Married With Children with a bowl of potatoe chips in one hand and a beer in the other.  No….I’m going to look 35 in the eyes and drop kick it with exercise….just like the ‘old’ guys I mentioned earlier have done at a much older age.  I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, God has given us an incredible machine for a body that adapts to the life we live.  It’s up to you wether you live like a restored classic, or a rusting bucked of junk…either way your body will say, "Okay".  Time to work off that rust, tune the engine and put on a fresh coat of paint……Can I get an ‘AMEN!’?

Chasing Life by Sanjay Gupta, MD

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Great book with some interesting ideas about increasing the quality of one’s life.  If you get a chance it’s worth reading, because it encourages us who are working to change ourselves for the better.  It deals with issues that increase the span and quality of life.

Another pound closer….

Friday, July 4th, 2008

I’m trying not to weigh myself daily….I know that weight can fluctuate daily.  So that said, I’ve started weighing myself weekly.  Well I lost another pound and am down to 211.8.  Almost a full twenty pounds, and I’ve not really suffered doing it.   Everyday I eat about 5 small meals with good carbs and protein.  Eating breakfast I think has been the key for my eating urges.  My short term goal was to be down to 210 by my 32nd birthday….at this rate I should blow it out of the water!

“Slow and steady wins the race”…

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

A fellow lifter left this encouragement on my discouragement post.  Really it is true.  Today I got on the scale and for the first time in years I was 212 pounds.  Slowly, but surely, my body is changing for the better.  I’m over the daunting task of just starting and before long I will be hitting the home stretch. BFL here I come!

A little lift from another post…

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I was reading a post by Bousman7 about how he had come back to the gym after 20 years of being away.  Currently, well as current as the post was, he was doing tricep extensions (I believe) with over 170lbs of weight!  Which, honestly, made me feel a tad bit whimpy.  But then he made a statement that encouraged me, in that he said when he got back into lifting he was doing it with 25lb plates on each side.  For 10 years I have let myself slide into a soft, pudgy state that I know is unhealthy and really, at the heart sinful as our bodies are gifts to us from God and we should treat them accordingly.  It really stinks getting back into the game and wondering where your strength went….but Bousman7 gave me encouragement.  The guy is almost 40 and is in great shape….I have 8 years to catch up to him and with God’s help I will get there…one day at a time sweet Jesus (as the song says).  Blessings!

Officially starting the BodyForLife tomorrow…

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

I wasn’t going to do it at first, because if you enter the competition it puts more on the line.  I’m tired of being overweight and tired….so I’m going to do it and LORD willing, I’m going to complete it!

Discouragement comes…

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

It seems that when one makes the decision that they no longer want to live the way they have been and want to change it never happens quick enough.  For over three weeks I’ve been hitting it hard….eating small meals every 2-3 hours, working out everyday faithfully (except for one day when I risked overtraining) and have had laser focus.  Pants are feeling looser, I’m looking slimmer…but I want results NOW.  I know that is not the way to be.  Things are changing and even if it is slower than what I want I could not go back.  I’m so excited for the upcoming, new me!
