Unashamedly, I’m a Rocky movie fan. It gets my blood racing and motivates me to MOVE. Everyone has something to motivate them, and this is mine. Why? Because during my days of youth in the 80’s (listen closely children and you can hear my bones creak), Stallone was the MAN. Or maybe it has to do with the fact that in 1976 I was born and it just happened to win best picture of the year…coincidence I don’t think so. Anyway in Rocky III Rocky is getting pummled by the moutain of a mohawk man Mr. T (a.k.a ‘Clubber Lang’). His trainer makes the statement, ‘He’s getting killed out there’, to which his friend says, "No he’s not he’s getting angry!". Well…I’m at that point. I’m getting angry. At myself for letting myself get so out of shape. At my weightloss which as slowed down. But I’m not going to quit…too many rounds into the fight. But what I am going to do is look at the obstacle in front of me (and around my waist) and say ‘You ain’t so bad!’ just as Rocky did to Clubber. Then I’m going to wipe the floor with it. If you want to know what I have planned take a look at my favorite article section to get a glimpse. By all means if you have some suggestions, or would simply pray for me (please) I’d appreciate it. Opps gotta go the round is about to start…..

I watched this movie last night, and I have to say it got me motivated to hit the treadmill. Yeah, yeah I’m a sucker for the underdog story, but you know what? That story is you and me. The vast majority of our society is overweight. It used to be that a 250 lb. man was a rarity, but now its a common occurance. I dare you to go to your local mall and count how many overweight people you see. Better yet, go to an all you can eat food joint and look at the people going through the lines like plump cattle (if that doesn’t motivate you to lose, well then enjoy your heart attack). Those of us who are trying to regain, or acheive, a healthy weight are now the underdogs…everything in our society counters our everymove. So let me ask you are you going to back down from the challenge that is before you? The goodnews is that us underdogs with heart, like those in Hollywood movies, come out on top.

In around about terms that is what another Bodybuilding.com member/friend asked me the other day. That is a fair question. But here is some that I will submit. Why doesn’t Ford/Chevy/etc. show their unfinished prototypes? Why doen’st an artist display his or her unfinished art? Its very simply…..they are not done yet. Neither am I. Soon enough I will take my mask off and say, "Here’s the finished product". Until then….under lock and key baby!

July 12th was my birthday (32….ouch). Dealing with the pain of that was much easier hitting my weight goal of 210! Bodybuilding.com has been such a good motivator for me and I appreciate all of my friends blogs and before and after pictures. God has blessed me with finding this sight and using it to start and get myself back into shape. My newest goal is to get to 200 by August 12th…..my wife and I’s eight year anniversary. Blessings to you all!

If your 59 or younger and need encouragement in your bodybuilding efforts….look no further than oldsuperman (Ed Cook) and Captain Ahab (Errol Hannigan). I used to think that anyone over 35 was ‘old’. Granted that was when I was in highschool and Thirty Something was on television (dating myself I am). Honestly I remember catching part of an episode of that series and thought, "Who the heck would want to watch that?". Now that I’m going to be turning 32 this Saturday my perspective has slightly changed. However, I’ve read different ‘authorities’ that claim that after the age of 35 its all downhill. My friends, that is only 3 years and 2 days from being the cold hard reality of my life. But I don’t have to accept what happens to the average 35 year old who sits on a couch watching reruns of Married With Children with a bowl of potatoe chips in one hand and a beer in the other. No….I’m going to look 35 in the eyes and drop kick it with exercise….just like the ‘old’ guys I mentioned earlier have done at a much older age. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, God has given us an incredible machine for a body that adapts to the life we live. It’s up to you wether you live like a restored classic, or a rusting bucked of junk…either way your body will say, "Okay". Time to work off that rust, tune the engine and put on a fresh coat of paint……Can I get an ‘AMEN!’?

Great book with some interesting ideas about increasing the quality of one’s life. If you get a chance it’s worth reading, because it encourages us who are working to change ourselves for the better. It deals with issues that increase the span and quality of life.

I’m trying not to weigh myself daily….I know that weight can fluctuate daily. So that said, I’ve started weighing myself weekly. Well I lost another pound and am down to 211.8. Almost a full twenty pounds, and I’ve not really suffered doing it. Everyday I eat about 5 small meals with good carbs and protein. Eating breakfast I think has been the key for my eating urges. My short term goal was to be down to 210 by my 32nd birthday….at this rate I should blow it out of the water!

My best friend Brian (Defiant6) started working out with me today! It will be good to have someone to challenge and share goals with! If you read this Brian leave a comment….or I’ll drop a dumbbell on your head. :0)

A fellow lifter left this encouragement on my discouragement post. Really it is true. Today I got on the scale and for the first time in years I was 212 pounds. Slowly, but surely, my body is changing for the better. I’m over the daunting task of just starting and before long I will be hitting the home stretch. BFL here I come!
