My Daily Pushup Routine for a Bigger, Harder Chest!
Hey guys!
Ok, quite a few folks have asked me what I’ve been doing for chest lately, so here it is.
StressMonkey and I have both been pretty consistent with having pushups as a daily part of our chest workout, so here’s my structured pushup routine that I do:
Using the “Perfect Pushup”
5 sets to failure (alternating narrow, wide, narrow, wide, narrow).
Hands against the edge of my bathtub
3 sets to failure (work on increasing the total number of pushups done each day by at least 2 pushups).
Post workout flexing
Flex/contract pec muscles hard, hold contraction for 2-5 seconds, then release. Repeat for 1 minute, rest for 1 minute and repeat cycle again. Over time, this will bring out deep striations and make your chest very hard when flexed.
Try this for 90 days and let me know what you think.

Woot! Also try alternating your feet being elevated at different levels.

I’ll try that. I did the feet elevated one time and it really felt good.

when you say against the edge of your bathtub do you mean your legs are elevated?

Do you mean do this workout everyday? Or at the end of your chest workout each week?
Oh, and how many push-ups can you do Skip? :p

Baje426, nope… your hands are resting on the edge of the bathtub and your feet are on the floor. I guess I should specify that.

Hey Richard!
I do this routine everyday, including days I do chest. I can do about 50 standard pushups before I hit failure.

Does this work for females as well?

I would imagine anyone with pectoral muscles will benefit. It won’t improve the firmness of breast tissue though. Breast tissue is not effected by resistance training.

That’s pretty intense to do everyday. What sort of time of day would you do this? How would you work it around your other gym workouts?
Could you do it when you get up before you have breakfast or should you eat first?
Thanks

I usually do the routine in the morning when I wake up. I’ll often do the "bathtub" sets between shaving and showering. The "perfect pushup" sets, I’ll usually do before I get dressed in the morning. Hehehe… that way, my uniform is all snug and form fitting on my way out the door.

Thats pretty hardcore bro!
I am doing 20 push-ups and 20 crunches on the hour (Normally eight to ten working hours).
Im thinking about starting a group on here called the 20/20 club…lol!!! Interested?

Hmmm… interesting. I’d probably have to do that on a day when I’m not working. To get the discipline to stop what I’m doing and do 20 crunches and 20 pushups might be tough to get started. I do work at a gym though, so that might be one angle I could attack it. I’ll just tell everyone it’s a ‘demonstration’ for prospective members.

I do 100 pushups every morning and try to do another 100 before bed if im not to tired. I think I want to give your program a try, it sounds like more of a challenge.

Well guys, it’s been 90 days since I posted this routine. Anyone have any progress reports to share?

Pardon me for being retarded, but what exactly do you mean by the edge of the bathtub pushups? Please describe what exactly I need to do with my body.
