Scale Weight

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

And the winner is……..

Sunday morning I woke up still completely full. LOL I knew I had step on that scale and was mentally ready.  I knew this was going to be water and glycogen…I was not in a fat storing mode-I did not undo all of my hard work (these are the things I was saying to myself :)

I was 8lbs up.  WOW.  Still a lot to take in.  So I said 7 but my brother said 8.5.  He was closer but went over so I win LOLOLOLOL

Funny thing was, I didn’t look smooth, I still had ab veins, now my tummy–that was a whole other issue.  As the day progressed though, I started to look worse LOL.  I got smoother in my abs.  That is mainly where I saw the difference.  I just kept thinking that this water will come off.  Then Monday came and I jumped back on the scale - I was a little unsure because I still looked REALLY smooth and BOOM I WAS STILL 8LBS UP.  Ok, I have to admit, panic set in.  Erik’s first reaction was ‘that is weird’.  (faint)  BUT he just reassured me that it would come back off and that I would see…..  Tuesday came and I didn’t even want to get on the scale….stupid scale.  I could tell that water had come off because my abs were back- for me that seems to be the indicator.  Anyway, I got on and I was 6.5lbs down.  This to me is just crazy, that our bodies can do all this.  Today I am another .5lb down and I actually look better than I did last week.  So total, I am still up 1lb and it will be interesting to see on Saturday when I take my measurements, if they are lower than last week.  That was the game plan in the first place.  If things go as expected, this Saturday will be another cheat day.  I will definitely tackle this one differently than I did last week.  I am going to stay away from all the sugar.  It has just been too hard on my stomach.  The other great thing that I have noticed this week is that my work outs have been full of energy and I have had a great pump in the gym.  This compared to last week is huge for me because last week I was drained and dragging.  It was all I could do to get to the gym-even though the workouts would be strong, I just didn’t want to go.  And that as we all know is not a good sign!  So it looks like so far, the cheat day was a great success, both for my body and for my efforts in the gym.  Even though I hate being the guinea pig (lol) hopefully this can show how important or how valuable a tool these types of things incorporated into your diet can be.  And I mean that in regards to cheats or refeeds or cycling carbs…..It just doesn’t have to mean lower and lower and lower calories.

Cheat day

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008
Well, Saturday was the big day. My instructions were to basically eat and eat a lot. Didn’t matter what it was, just get in a lot of food. I kind of explained why in my earlier post. Was I nervous, yes, I didn’t want to undo all the hard work that I had put into my prep so far, but in the end I always follow my instructions well. Not to mention ‘logically’ I understood the need for this even though mentally it sucked LOL. So off I went, chowing down on Saturday….I videoed a lot of it and will put a clip of it together…only because it was pretty funny. The day started of with homemade Belgian waffles. I got down one..it was a biggie though :) I also ate some monkey bread with it. This is basically biscuit dough covered in brown sugar and butter and baked. My kids thought this breakfast was great LOL. As everyone that knows me, knows that I love candy. Here is where my day started to go down hill. The candy started to be eaten…now when I say candy I mean all kinds: starburst, chocolates, and by far the worst- I made crack. Crack is the yummiest thing ever. It is saltine crackers that have been covered in brown sugar and butter (that have made a toffee coating) with choc and pecans. This is put in the fridge to set and broken in pieces. This did me in. But not until I managed to have about 1 cup of rice with chicken(chinese food). After that, I had plans to go to dinner with my brother and sister-in-law. I swore that I was going to get a nice big cheeseburger. When we got to the restaurant, Erik was eating out with other friends from our forum at the same time up in Canada, and we were all communicating back and forth. See this whole time Erik has been saying what a pathetic eater I was and I had been telling him that he would regret the decision to give ME a full day cheat. So there was some smack going back and forth. ok, so back to the dinner. Chili cheese fries were ordered and I ate a few of those. Then the burger came….I had like three bites and thought…that is it…I am going to die. LOL So I sent him a picture of what I had eaten and everyone was laughing at me. Overall it was a real blast. We left the restaurant and came back home…where I have to admit…I had more starburst…oh my tummy. So, how many of you are surprised by my eating LOL….wait till you here how much weight I put on.

That is the second part of this story….There were wagers taken on the number the scale would hit the next morning. I of course was nervous because I hate that darn thing. Here were the bets

Erik-6lbs
Elizabeth(my SIL) 5lbs
Scott (hubby) 5.5lbs
Christian (my brother) 8.5lbs
me- 7lbs

So who do you think won?

Cheat day…leaning out for competitions.

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008
Lots of changes this past week. We dropped my calories a bit and also dropped my veggies like I said before…I saw a lot of differences. This past week my weight came down 5lbs and my measurements dropped a lot for a short period of time. Hopefully I will get some pics up soon. I am feeling a ton better since taking out the veggies, I think the culprit was the salad..so that is going to stay out of my diet. As for today: wow, This is my first all day cheat. Here is the reason why:

So you get to a point during contest prep where your calories are generally low and then maybe your energy for workouts is down a bit or their is a plateau in your progress–you have a two choices—you can continue to drop the calories and then up the cardio…Erik and I both DO NOT like that idea or you can start implementing things like refeeds and BIG cheats. I have seen so many girls do endless amounts of cardio…and I am not about to say that it doesn’t work because these same girls come into their shows…lean and looking good. BUT that option is just not feasible for me. I 1.do not have that kind of time 2.I am just afraid I would lose the muscle that I busted my butt for during off season and 3. the rebound from that seems to be bad. So we are going to put in a HUGE cheat day. Which is today. LOL This will help upregulate the regulatory hormones that govern fat loss, various aspects of metabolism–leptin. The huge carb/caloric intake on such days serves as a trigger to upregulate leptin levels and promote continued fat loss WITHOUT having to resort to continued calorie cutting and continued increases in cardio.

The thing that is hard about this is just the mental side. I have been ‘dieting’ for a while and have a negative mindset on ‘cheating’. That ‘cheating’ is BAD. I hit some nice lows this past week and feel like…uh oh, am I going to negate all that I did. But like Erik always says, this is to make progress BETTER. So I will weigh everyday this next week and watch the weight come back down and hopefully by Friday, I will have seen a nice change in my measurements. The funny part is I have most of this on video LOL and my kids are having a blast. Hopefully I can splice it together and put it up…

Hope your day is as yummy as mine.

8 weeks out from the JR USAs

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Just finished another biweekly. Weight was the same, but my measurements dropped. It is funny how when this happens to my clients, I tell them this is the best possible news, but when it happens to me, I get ticked. I guess the whole goal is to just drop body-fat and not to focus on the weight. I mean the whole goal of the offseason was to come in heavier –ie– more muscle! My new program has some new lifts for me in it. Ones that I have never done. The first was a one-arm DB snatch. Definitely a great movement, but what I initially struggled with was my left arm. I am right handed and throwing that weight up with my right arm was great. My left, well, I was worried I was going to launch it accross the gym. Hopefully my form and confidence will improve with each time I perform this- I used a 60lb DB. I also had on-arm lateral throws. I like these a lot. These movements get you really winded too - I think I used 40lbs for these. And the last new one that I had was full contact twists. I thought those were going to be a breeze, but dang they were very hard. They are all in the clip that I put together at the bottom. So things seem to be coming together — it is always nerve racking when you have a deadline though. Here are a few progress pics from yesterday.

This is 2 weeks ago

This is yesterday.

Here is full front shot…you can see where the legs are (hopefully) going to start coming down :)

Competition Prep

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

I keep a blog on www.leanbodiesconsulting.com/noelc and thought i would post some of it over here.  There are other great blogs on leanbodies to read though if you get a chance.

I am in the middle of contest prep for Jr USAs–which is in less than 9 weeks.  I came off my first bulk this past fall where I had put on about 17lbs.  I was trying to bring up my upper body, especially my triceps and back depth.  I definitely feel like it worked.  Now I am just trying to diet off all the extra that came along with a bulk.  I will posting some progress pics and other things along the way.
