Another day

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Well I didn’t get up for a morning run but I did get to the gym tonight and got in a great workout.  It feels great getting back in the gym.

My brother and sister are flying in to see me later this week and I am really excited about that.  We are going white water rafting and that is going to be a lot of fun.  Not a lot to write about tonight but I wanted to stick to my posting.  Later.

Starting again….at least I’m use to it

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Well I’m back again after a month and a half off.  I have no idea why I continue to start and stop when it comes to working out and eating right.  I was very dedicated to my diet and my workouts for the 2 months prior to my trip to Jamaica.  I wasn’t in the best shape of my life but I felt good about my results and just felt great about my dedication.  Well as soon as I got back from the vacation I couldn’t get back into the gym.  I wish I had a good reason for this but I can’t not think of one.  I played catch up at work but that is always going to be the case.

Well I finally started getting back in the gym and I am going to rededicate myself to my workouts.  I am just pissed at myself for doing this yet again.  I put on 10 pounds in a month and a half and my cardio has gone down the crapper.  As upset at myself as I am I am officially letting it go.  I can’t do anything about the past couple of months so I am going to do what I have done many times before…start.

Congrats to all of you on here who continue to stick to your goals and I hope one day I will be able to look back on this and say that I am proud that I have finally stuck to mine as well.  Good luck to everyone.

Hurry Up Offense

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Well I have 10 days until I leave for Jamaica.  I am very excited for the trip.  I am also pretty happy with my workouts over the past several months.  For a quick recap I started working out again in November.  I did a good job for 2 months and then had a month of trouble.  Did good for a couple of months and then had a month and a half layoff and was pretty down.  Well for the past month I have been very focused and have seen some good results.  I’m not where I planned I would be back in November but I’m happy nonetheless.  I have 10 more days and I am going to continue to push it.  My cardio and eating has been good.

Not really any point to this blog but I have not blogged in awhile so I thought I would get some of my thoughts down.

Just when you think you are in the clear…

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Well about a month ago I was feeling awesome.  My workouts were consistent and I was hitting all of my workout goals.  I thought I was invincible and I had changed for good.  Well here I am a month later and somehow the last month flew by without me working out.

I had some serious issues at work and I was putting in 16-18 hour days.  It seems like everyday I just said "Tomorrow I am getting back on track."  I stopped blogging on this site and I did not hold myself accountable.  Now I am 58 days away from my vacation and I feel like I am so far behind.  I went to the gym both days this weekend and I was not only weak I was very winded.

I can not begin to tell you how pissed I am at myself.  I’m also embarrassed with the how I just fell apart.  That being said I guess there is nothing to do than learn from this (again) and get back on track.  I spent this evening planning my meals and planning my entire week.  I will bust my butt this week and get going in the right direction.

Progress

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Well I think I am making some progress.  I finally hit my goal of 225 lbs and I also hit my goal on the overhead press.  I have been working hard in the gym and have been doing ok on my diet.  I need to pick up the cardio and tighten up my nutrition.

Anyway I am still happy with my progress but I only have about 95 days left until my trip.  I really need to get going over the next 3 months.  It’s easy to start something, and I have done this before.  This time I need to stick to it.

Sticking to it

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

This week has been extremely busy.  It’s one of those weeks when you don’t even need an excuse to miss a workout.  The only way I could get in my workouts this week is to have a good plan.  My workouts have been at 5am or 1030pm but damn it they are getting done.  I am proud of my effort and am going to stick to it.

Laziness avoided

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Well tonight I had a dinner meeting downtown.  It was a large meeting with several customers and involved drinking and a massive family style dinner.  Now this is a normal thing for me and my job.  What is not normal is that tonight I did not drink anything but water, ate healthy, and then left a little early so I could go get in my workout.  I am really proud of my dedication today.  There were so many times, including in the parking lot of the gym where I was almost wishing I forgot my shoes so I could just go home and take it easy, where I thought of skipping the workout.  However, shoes in tow I went in and got in a great workout.  I felt great afterwards which I think was 10% due to the workout and 90% due to the mental high of sticking to my plan.  Now I know what I did was not incredible and the people on this site do it everyday.  However, I was proud of myself and I have to type it out not to brag but to keep myself motivated.

Decent Weekend

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Well I was really sick over the weekend but I got in workouts both Saturday and Sunday. I actually had a ton of strength primarily because I did nothing else but sit on the couch.  I didn’t get any cardio in but I decided it wasn’t a good idea with the fever and everything.

The next 2 weeks are very busy and I am trying to plan things out so I can stick with the program.

Eliminating Choices

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Well I don’t normally post on motivation but I guess I’m changing it up today.  I was driving to the gym after a long day at work.  Today was leg day and for some reason I didn’t feel tired prior to the workout.  I never really dread working out but usually feel tired and I search for a good excuse to go sit on the couch.  I have done a very good job of fighting off the excuses but today I didn’t need one.

I think the simple reason is that I no longer allow myself that choice.  I don’t have a choice on if I work out after work…I just do it.  If you think about it that makes things a lot easier.  This thought can work from everything from working out to balancing your budget.  Now you can’t just say you are going to hit a record bench on any given day but you can say you are not going to miss morning cardio. What is the option?  Hit snooze or get up.  Why not eliminate hitting snooze.  I’m not saying move the alarm clock it’s more of a mental thing but completely possible.  Can’t eat healthy on a business trip?  Why?  Bring a few protein bars, skip drinks at dinner and order chicken.  If you go on a business trip where you order a plain chicken breast or stop by subway you are kidding yourself.

I guess I am just writing this to make myself concentrate on my mental training.  I have been hitting the gym consistently and now the mind work are what I believe will put me over the top.  Anyone that reads this or that has sent comments I appreciate that.  If people don’t read it no big deal it just helps me to get my thoughts down.  Good luck to everyone in achieving their goals!

Goal Achieved

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Well I have not achieved all of my goals but I checking them off my list.  I must say it feels pretty good.  I had already acheived my arm goal and yesterday I finally hit my goal for bent over rows.  I wanted to row 225 for 10 reps and I finally have accomplished that.  I am pretty close on 2 other goals as well.  I am only 15 lbs away from my 315lbs bench and 5 pounds away from my 185lbs shoulder press.  I hope to get both of those goals in the next 3 weeks.

Now my goals that really matter…weight and waist are not going so hot.  My weight is slowly going down and bodyfat is dropping which I am very happy about.  My waist is not really moving.  I started increasing my cardio last week which seemed like it would help but didn’t really matter.  I am also cutting out carbs at night.  Hopefully this week I see a bigger drop.  I keep waiting for that "big" week.  Maybe I need to stop watching biggest loser.  HA!  Anyway I am staying the course and I am going to keep setting goals and striving for my best.  Even though my weight is not great I am in MUCH better shape than when I started at the end of November.
