I’ve seen the light…

June 22, 2009

…and it is good.

For as long as I can remember, when I’ve been lifting I had only one thing in my mind, "Get Big!" Since I’ve matured a bit in the two and a half years I’ve last lifted, I’ve reached some conclusions regarding my shape and physique.

  1. I’m COMPLETELY out of shape.
  2. I want to finally be able to see my muscular definition and hopefully my abs.
  3. I really love this sport.
I no longer want to have the obscenly impressive strength of throwing up 500 pounds and squatting 800 that I once strived for. Down that path, I wouldn’t begin to get in shape, but rather just get fatter and start gaining more and more muscle mass underneath all the fat.
I started researching body builders and what makes them SO much different from power lifters, and I have to say, the life of a power lifter just doesn’t seem appealing. There’s no need to put that much stress on your body and joints, just to feel more masculine about yourself. I’d much rather lift a comfortable amount of weight and have my body looking GREAT at the same time.
So that’s where I am right now. I’m working towards my short term goal of cutting down to around 12-13% body fat with hopefully losing not too terribly much weight, and my ultimate goal in two-three years of 9-10% body fat at a beastly 235. I want to have the Vince Gironda physique, and the first step towards that is having his mindset. I hope I’m stepping off with the right foot then.
