New workout

August 29, 2007

Hah to that last post of mine.. yeah I’ve done same HIIT on the treadmill, but only when time allows, which is not very often.. oops. The week I did it 2 or 3 times I noticed that my weight stayed under 140lbs though, so I know what I have to do. [Sigh]

Anyway, the real point of this post is that IT’S ALREADY BEEN 6 WEEKS of training with my PT/Personal Bodybuilder :D This means I’ve received a new workout from him.. which is about 50 times harder than the last one! Damned supersets… back squats (heels raised) immediately followed by back squats (wide stance) immediately followed by leg extensions?! and then 5 sets of Romanian Deadlifts for good measure? My legs are killing me today, and that was just yesterday’s workout. I’m doing 3 different kinds of tricep pulldowns and 3 different kinds of bicep curls on Mondays, the leg work on Tuesday, some crazy Back stuff on Thursdays, and a similar Chest workout on Fridays. The back stuff is really going to produce some visible results this month — I took a progress picture yesterday which I intend on posting tonight, and I *do* look better. Phew!

I need to clean up my diet even more this month…. this new workout really has the potential for wicked results at the end of 6 weeks, but only if I get precise as shit with my nutrition. I’ve been eating all the right foods, but I haven’t been super vigilant that I’m getting greens with every feeding, I’ve been missing fish oils, and I’ve been stingy with my flax meal. I’ve also been binge eating blueberries and having way more mixed nuts than necessary when I do have them. Most of it’s just laziness.. instead of adding a bit of yogurt, greens+, and flax to my shakes, I’m just putting my protein in a shaker cup and leaving. LAZY LAZY!

Progress pic will be up later today. Can’t wait for feedback :D

Cardio :(

July 31, 2007

I am no cardio bunny by any means. Yes, in the past I have been known to move from half an hour on the treadmill to half an hour on the bike to half an hour on the elliptical and maybe 10 minutes on the rowing machine in one training session, but I hated every minute of it and it’s been years since I’ve had the patience or time to waste doing so.

If I want to start seeing the lean muscle I’ve been gaining, however, I have to start doing cardio again. At the end of my training sessions I might squeeze in a 15 minute run here or there and I go for long bike rides on the weekend, but that’s all I’ve been doing. I hate cardio — I hate every minute that I run on a treadmill/ellipitical/etc.

Well, I’m starting a little cardio experiment called HIIT. High intensity interval training .. with a jump rope. I’m going to try one minute on, one minute off X 10 today.. so 20 minutes of quality cardio. It’s going to be hell today since it’s Quads & Hamstring day, but if I wait til tomorrow or Thursday, I’ll be in an even bigger world of pain. I’m going to try doing this twice a week, for now. Tuesdays and Fridays will be regular training + abs & cardio. Hopefully I will start seeing some results, damnit!

New progress pics

July 23, 2007

Taken Monday, July 23 — just 1 week into my custom workout program designed by Mr. Personal Trainer/Bodybuilder. It’s tough stuff! It feels like I’ve been doing it forever, too, but today was my first time repeating a workout (Monday = biceps & triceps; Tuesday = quads & hamstrings, abs; Thursday = chest; Friday = Back, abs). Anyway, hopefully in one month there will be some NOTICEABLE differences, unlike last month to this month. P.S. that’s my new bikini

Coming along..

July 19, 2007

So last week I met with my trainer, who is a competitive bodybuilder himself. The whole session was surprising to me – instead of telling me what I was doing wrong in my diet, he gave me some guidelines to follow and said he’d let me make some changes and then re-evaluate in a couple weeks to see if I’ve made improvements. So I’ve started supplementing fish oil at 12 capsules a day, I’m eating more often (6 times a day, every 3 hours or so), and making sure I’m eating lean protein at every feeding. I save carbs until my post-workout meals and have been eating tons of cottage cheese, oatmeal, spinach, omega-3 eggs, egg whites, greens plus, tuna and whey protein (of course).

Needless to say, I get some pretty strange looks from co-workers in the kitchen when I’m pouring flax oil over my tuna salad or mixing chocolate powder with my oatmeal – oh, and the greens plus gets some pretty disgusted stares as well. Oh well, maybe they’ll all put two and two together when they see what I look like 2 to 3 months down the road :P

The training plan I’m on is quite intense. I’m doing triceps & biceps on Monday, quads and hams on Tuesday, chest on Thursday, and back on Friday. The workouts are all between 45 and 60 min in duration, mostly supersets with 2 to 3 different exercises and 4 reps total. This is my first week on the program so I’ve only done the first 2 days of workouts – wow, are they ever demanding! I love it, I can tell this is only going to turn out very, very well. I just need to stick to my diet and my work out schedule – and I also need to manage a couple cardio sessions a week.. so far I’ve been way too busy/tired/full of excuses to do any…

Meeting a PT tomorrow!

July 12, 2007

So tomorrow after work I’m meeting with a PT that has coached figure and bodybuilding competitors (and has competed himself, obviously). He writes up a new program every month for his clients, and refuses to take on athletes that won’t allow him control over their nutrition as well. This is exciting! Apparently his programs are very difficult, but there are only 4 weight work outs per week, at 45 - 60 minutes each. That’s less than what I’m doing now! He also doesn’t believe in cardio, though I suspect I’ll have to do some because my body fat percentage is not great… yet.

Regardless of what the program ends up being, I’m super excited to finally have a personalized program! I can’t wait to see the results I get from a professional, since I’ve been pretty impressed with the results I’ve had so far (surprising since I’ve been piecing together workouts from random information I read on this site and other internet sources and only been working out with heavy weight for just over a month).

I’ll no doubt write another blog entry next  week about how it all went, what my program looks like, and how harshly I was berated for my diet (I have to bring a log of my diet for the past 5 days for analysis).

That’s all for now. I’m really excited! .. back to work for now, though..

Detox!

July 9, 2007

Yuck, last week was a huge set back. Was playing host to my house guest and best friend for 10 days … 10 days of eating out, drinking sangria by the pitcher, and skipping the gym to entertain her. I feel dirty! This is my official detox week — the scale shows a gain of 4 - 5 pounds, though at least half of this is water weight (I can FEEL it). I’m excited as ever to get back in the gym tonight.. what a nerd.

One more note: started taking LIPO 6 today (ran out of CLA and my Genuine Health thermogenic fat burner). Says to ask my doctor before taking it if I’m on oral contraceptives, though I suspect this is because of the increased risk of blood clotting. It also says not to use other supplements (listing ephedra and some others as examples) — what about CLA, does anyone know? I’ll probably end up asking my doc when I see her next, but in the meantime if anyone out there knows…

Urg..

June 26, 2007

So I’m 3 lbs more than I was before the weekend, after allowing myself 2 cheat days (the second was accidental.. stupid all day staff meetings with buffet lunch & cocktails with friends at night!). I ate some of my friend’s onion rings late last night and woke up feeling gross, so I headed to the gym for a pre-work workout. That’s probably why I’m a whole 3 lbs more — greasy shit from the last day or two is still congealing somewhere inside me, woo hoo! I’ll be sticking to my nutirition and workout regimen pretty strictly this week so I have the look and feel of being on track again. It’s gonna be hard… as of Thursday I’m going to have a house guest to entertain and take out to dinner etc etc, who probably won’t want to eat protein shakes and tuna salad for dinner :|

What a difference it makes..

June 21, 2007

Wow, what a difference my morning protein shakes and a well-balanced lunch make — today I was late for work so didn’t have enough time for a shake (had a carnation instant breakfast.. blech), and then this afternoon was the Staff Picnic, complete with pizza and cookies (I ate one piece of vegetarian pizza and filled up on veggies.. no protein!).

Needless to say, I can’t remember the last time I felt this tired and sluggish — would have been well before I started eating clean and supplementing protein.

I think I’m going to have to have a bit of protein shake before I head to the gym today :/

I love results :D

June 20, 2007

Wow have I ever been doing a lot of shopping lately — my clothes are getting too loose!

Anyway, just wanted to document the fact that I bought some size 27 Guess white linen capris yesterday … size 27! Two years ago I was squeezing my fat ass into size 32s! SO nice to be buying 27s again… *sigh*

Workouts have been going great, though I’ve been neglecting the cardio component, I must admit… it’s been too humid and warm outside for jogging comfortably, and after spending an hour or more lifting weights in the gym I’ve had to take off for work instead of spending a half hour on the treadmill… pooh.

I just started taking a thermogenic metabolism booster to help me out in the meantime.. just hope I can keep losing a little weight just weight training and doing super short cardio stints (e.g. my 5-10 min warm up run.. oops).

Whatever though — size 27!! yay!
