Overcoming Obstacles

November 12, 2009

This past March, my fitness (and my entire life!) took a nosedive. I happened to be involved in a catastrophic car accident that left me nearly dead. It happened to be in the middle of nowhere and the chances of any kind of help getting there in time were slim - especially with the condition I was in.

Apparently the only reason I lived was a friend at the time saw the whole thing from his vehicle and after checking to make sure I was breathing, ran down the road looking for the nearest house to call for help. There just so happened to be a huge fire in a field down the road so there were a whole bunch of firetrucks going by and they just so happened to have an ambulance with them. My friend flagged down the firetrucks and got the paramedics to come help me. Apparently, they had to pick up doctors from the hospital in the next town to ride with me in the ambulance until we got to the big hospital in the city where I could get the care I needed. They tell me they didn’t think I was going to live and, in fact I was clinically deceased momentarily.. so I have a lot to be thankful for today!

It had been seven months before I was strong and well enough to come home and eight months (and a week or so) till today… I’ve had a tough go. But you know, I pulled out strong. And I plan on keeping pulling out strong!!

I have learned that it is never worth it to gamble with one’s health. Life is only here once as far as we can prove and if we do get second chances, I’ve already used my get out of jail free card (so to speak!). We have one life, one mind, and one body.

We cannot control the circumstances surrounding us but we can control us.

Rebirth

October 22, 2008

What does it mean to start something new? I assume it means something slightly different to each of us. Leaving part of you behind in hope of sculpting something new. What if instead of leaving something behind, we change it to make it something better?
I’ve struggled with eating disorders since as far back as I can remember. Binge eating disorder to anorexia to back and forth between them. After battling anorexia, I became a binge eater again and used Bulimia to appease my eating..
Now I still struggle with urges to eat but I am trying to replace binging with control. Junk for whole, nutritious foods, things I don’t have to feel guilty about and start the cycle again.
I love the great outdoors. I’m going to get out more.
I love to hunt and the satisfaction of eating something you shot and prepared yourself is like something equal to nothing else. You are more thankful for your food, for your abilities, and for being able to eat it. You feel accomplished.
It’s really cold out today. Perfect for outdoor survival training. Cold, crisp air feels so clean in the lungs. I’m going to chase my own spirit.. my own will to not only live but to survive.
I’m going partridge hunting
When all is said and done, I’m going to make my own fire and cook it outdoors.

Survival makes you the fittest!!
